2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

Lovely moment on TMS where Aggers mentioned some injured servicemen lying in a hospital after returning from Southern Afghanistan. Everyone listening in the hospital. Just brilliant!

Correct, there would be nothing I'd love to see more than Freddie getting a ton in this series - holding up the bat with the lid off saluting the adoring public - its what english cricket is all about!

It's a pity that the guy who most realistically could be relied to get a tonne is injured. :( Really hope that England don't miss KP too much in the up coming tests, though that's probably wrong.

At least we'll be hard pressed to loose it.

I'd say a win is still on if the weather holds out. It'll take Australia at least an hour or 2 after lunch to get anywhere near a high enough total to win, so they'll play for the draw if they're only 100 ahead at lunch. If we get a couple of wickets before lunch it'l make for a great afternoon if there's only 150-200 to chase

Sorry, who do you mean, KP or Bell? :)

If you mean Bell, then I don't agree with that. Even when he's in, he's in my eyes still too tentative. Too feeble. He's not as technically gifted as Pietersen either (i.e. the man he's been brought into replace). Bell's also had plenty of chances, I think he's well into 40 tests now. It's not like he's new to the whole feel of the occasion.

I've never seen KP as lacking mental strength..

Err, Bell... He has a superior technique to Pietersen but his problems are all in his head (as you say, too feeble/tentative). Not that I was comparing Pietersen to Bell, but Pietersen is someone who has a massive amount of confidence and mental strength coupled with an incredible eye that allows him to hit some of the most outrageous shots. I wouldn't say his technique is anything special but the rest of him makes up for it.

I disagree, KP's batting technique is better than any of his peers. Whether that's because he learnt his basics in a totally different (acadamy driven?) environment compared to England's other batters I don't know.

Yes, he can pull off the unorthodox and its this that people remember. For the most part, when he's not playing as such his technical skills while in standard play are much better than Bell's.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree here :) But fair enough.

Anyway, roll on tomorrow - Fingers crossed we'll be able to pick up some wickets :)

I have to agree with oli on that, Bell's technique is superior to KP's but KP has far more natural talent, that's the general opion of the majority of pundits I've heard discuss it too:)

Hopefully the weather stays fair, this could be another exciting day if we can get 3-4 wickets before lunch.
Looks a bit cloudy at the moment:cool:

I'd also prefer someone of Bell's temperament in a test side.

I see where you're coming from, but KP's natural talent would confer to a greater technical ability in this case?

:)

Oops it's already started. :D

KP may have a ton more natural talent then others, but he is not a good test batsman.

That's not true.

He usually scores very well and averages over 50 (50+ tests?); higher than any other English batsman on the pitch. He has around a 50% conversion rate of half centuries to centuries etc.

Am surprised and shocked at just how **** the Aussies have become...their bowling is rubbish thats a given but their batting is beyond a joke now.

Dont think the Aussies have a chance in hell of retaining the Ashes as much as it pains me to say that:p...but i think England have well and truly outplayed them..rumours are that if Aussies lose the Ashes Ponting could be dropped as captain as he isnt leading from the front as he usually does. What i dont get is why they left Stuart Clark out and are still playing Johnson...surely they must realise that this guy is going to give them the Ashes on a plate the way hes been bowling.

Anyways have to give it to England they seem much more fired up than the Aussies about this Ashes series and if England win then good on them...The Aussies have definitely lost that invincibility aura about them..
