2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

Arumours are that if Aussies lose the Ashes Ponting could be dropped as captain as he isnt leading from the front as he usually does.
Well I think I read somewhere, after Lords, that if we win back the Ashes that Ricky Ponting would be the first Australian cricket captain to lose the Ashes twice. :D:eek::p

Probably true and then when England go back to Australia the Aussies will win it again..probably 5-0:D:p...like the last time they went there so that would mean that Ricky if hes still captain to lose it twice and win it back twice via 2 whitewashes:p.

A big if that. How many Ashes series have there been? How many Australian captains? To lose an Ashes twice and be the first one to do that and he'd probably resign. :p

I dont know, theres been plenty but fact of the matter is that Aussies arent the team they were a few yrs ago when they decimated just about everyone in their path...2005 they were far too chummy with England and that cost them the series plus the fact that they couldnt deal with a swinging ball that England beat them with...when England went to Aus to defend the Ashes they got their backsides handed to them 5-0.

Ponting no longer has Warne, MacGrath, Hayden and Gilchrist etc at his disposal anymore plus they have a new coach as well...those guys that retired could literally take the game away from you...but theres no doubt that the Aussies are now a much weaker side than they were 5-6 yrs ago. Plus losing Lee as their main strike bowler was a big blow...same thing happened with MacGrath back in 2005 when he was injured and was out for a few matches.

I dont think Ponting would step down, id be surprised if he did...i reckon he will be pushed out if anything unless hes lost the appetite for the game.

England losing KP imho wasnt a big loss as hes hardly been making any runs lately and he has a habit of playing some utterly stupid shots at times...if England lost Flintoff then that would be a massive loss for them i think.

Its going to be very difficult for the Aussies to win i think...they just dont seem to have the bowlers to bowl England out for a paltry total..in fact the tables have turned and its the Aussies who are suffering from spectacular batting collapses. This match will probably end up being a draw unless England get 6 quick wickets then knock off the lead pretty quickly...hell if they do bowl Aussies out id be having a go at it...cant see Aussies bowling them out in the 2nd innings if England get a chance to bat again.

Draw it is then barring a miracle, I can't see the Aussies winning a test unless they up their game or our lads get nervous and lose the plot.

Clarke should get his century...no point in declaring as theres not enough overs to get a decent score lol...poxy british weather screwed this test up ie first day lost...god knows why they play test cricket during a british summer...perhaps they should look at putting roofs over the grounds:p:D....never get a decent summers worth of cricket due to the crappy weather:(.

Oh well another draw...doesnt leave many tests for the Aussies to get a win which they desperately need to even the series up.

Test drawn after Clarke got his century...oh well another test starts on fri and Aussies really have to look to be winning that one or else the Ashes will be Englands yet again.

Australia have lost their aura, er, for sure. ;)

I'd say Warne/McGrath/Gilchrist are missed the most. One of the best spinners of all time. One of the best seamers of all time. Probably the best keeper batsman of all time. All capable of turning a bad game into a win for Australia. All gone. Ponting now has a weak team with which to match expectations.

Quite true. Ponting wouldn't resign. He'd have to be sacked to end his term as captain.

Quite agree. If KP had made big 100s in the first Tests then we'd miss him but he didn't and he's really quite good and choosing stupid shots which get him out for scores that really aren't right. A player like KP should really make the opposition work for his wicket. Not give it away through poor shot choice and then say that it didn't matter as he was still our top scorer in the innings.

We've got pretty much all of the top 5 batsmen out for quite low scores in this series so far, I think. :p

Obviously two more draws gets the Ashes back in English hands again. And a win at Headingley gives England a 2-0 lead with one match left. Please. :)

I don't know why you seem to be conceding defeat for the Aussies already Spawn. They had us against the wall in Cardiff, and this test could have just as easily been theirs if there was another day tomorrow. Even though we were generally on top at the end of the last three days, I wouldn't really class this as a massive chance missed.

Still definitely everything to play for in the remaining two tests, and England need to be incredibly wary of any complacency. Cook, Bopara, and Bell, in particular, need to step up and be counted at some point soon.
