At the end of the day it's entirely up to the individual whether they wish to complete it correctly, incorrectly or not at all, I choose not to as I don't particularly trust the Govt. with anything as they tend to make mistakes and lose things, also I completely disagree with any such Data being used Commercially in any way, if they want to 'Sell' my Data, they can Pay me for the Data, I also vehemently disagree with the completely unlawful Threats of penalties for failure to comply which are unenforceable if you refuse to provide the evidence required by them to use against you, and last but by no means least a US Corporation getting all that Data? The US has about the same regard for Human Rights and Privacy as China does, very little (If you think they don't, do some research!).

Also, to the 'Nothing to Hide' brigade, put your money where your mouths are, post all your Credit Card Details, Emails, Bank Statements, Wage Slips etc. here for all to see if you 'Have nothing to hide', Oh, look...You do have stuff to hide after all

They can't legaly force you to fill it in. Don't be scared by threats of £1000 fine. When the census people come round just don't disclose any information to them or sign anything and there can be no prosecution. Deal with them in the same you deal with the TV License Inspector.

The old "if you have nothing to hide.." very popular phrase during nazi germany and just about every other police state in existance.

why would you be in favour of ID cards?

I was living in student accomodation back then and couldn't be bothered to fill it in. I had the census people come round a few times chasing me up but they always came round when I was at the pub lol.

If they did that to me i'd tell them i've removed there assumed right of access to my property and are now commiting tresspassing and harasment and if they don't leave or ever come round again i'll call the police and have them prosecuted.

Brilliant idea limiting childrens access to alcohol. Then teenagers will just go and take dodgy pills/coke instead. I'm not saying its good for teenagers to get drunk, but it happens always has and always will. If you deprive them of one high then they'll just look for another.
You can already get ID for getting into pubs/clubs and it's a lot cheaper than state sponsered ID cards.
The only benefits I can think of is it increases the states intrusion into your life and also makes a shed load of money for the companys that rpoduce the cards.

Perhaps magick should have repeated all the reasons that everyone else gave for objecting to the intrusive questions on the census form and the way in which it is being conducted just so as to make clear to meghatronic that he agreed with the reasons given by others.

I think "they already have this info" and "it is none of their business" covers most of the reasons.

As for "needing more info to plan services", well your ethnicity should not matter for that, your first language does not matter for that.

Equally asking how people travel to work is a bit pointless too, as I can plan for the future of the country transport needs without asking that question.
You need good public transport that is cheap and reliable.
You need good infrastructure for personal transport via cars.

You mean the many hundreds of systems across the global banking system that have no end of issues talking to each other and the huge number of IT staff required to develop and maintain those systems? HSBC has more IT staff than Microsoft for example.

So sure, an all encompassing central government database could work, but I am not really sure that you would want to pay for it and I am not really sure that I would like the law changed so that all my various bits of data can be collated.
