2011 Weight Loss Thread!

Yes I've experienced shin splints on my jogs so far. I hope it's just down to my feet being unused to running and it will subside in time.

I get very very sore calf muscle pain after a 15 minute jog. Barely able to walk for about an hour or so after. That was on Saturday and when walking to work today I was barely able to go up stairs.:(

I push myself while jogging but when it really hurts I know to just slow down and walk.

Just there coming up the stairs from getting a drink of orange and it's hurting. I certainly can't run up the stairs.:(

Because your muscles are not used to running :) When you recover again, go on a 10min jog, then again, then again.

Soon you will be limited by your fitness, and not an aching calf.

It's the same with anything. If I jumped in a boat now and started rowing for my life, I would hurt like hell tomorrow because I am not used to doing it.

My main issue was the alcohol intake and lack of exercise. These two changes and the weights dropped off. Lost a stone over 2 months and still going.

I think what helped is that alcohol in any form doesnt seem to agree with me anymore so i couldnt drink it even if i wanted to, but its scary how many calories it does contain !!

A packet of Supernoodles is 400 calories?

Yep 237 cal per half a pack so 474 for a full pack of asda 29p 3min noodle packs.

Edit = Hmm lookin at bachelors super noodles low fat, are 154cal per half pack. Might have to get them instead now, tho bit more expensive :( Tho asda do em 4 for £2 apparently.

God the pain I was in walking to work was ungodly. Going upstairs required me to hold onto the damn banister.:(

The problem is overnight it feels like my legs tighten up so when I get up in the morning I'm always staggering for an hour or two.

Basically it feels like I'm being stabbed up and down the lower half of my leg back and front anytime I put weight on it.

it will get better. honest, keep going......

on a side note, im cycling to work tomorrow for the first time...im slightly nervous that ill get there and 12.5 hours later ill not be able to cycle back. I also suffer with carpel tunnel..so itll be interesting, how long should I leave to cycle 7.6m with 3 big hills. having not cycled more than a mile in a few years. thinking of leaving 45 mins after to recover and shower at work....some advice please.

I'd think leaving a good hour at the latest. I cycled 2.5 miles in about 15 minutes. This is coming from never doing any exercise at all. I was worn out by then though so it depends if you have somewhere to shower etc at work.

Went out for another jog earlier. Barely made it half way befo I had to pack it in. Calf muscles gave in and left me standing still in complete agony. Had to limp the half mile back home. :(

So gonna give myself a few days off s something clearly isn't right when I can barely walk. Not going to be giving up though.

There's no law which says you have to suffer. Life is not a 2 hour movie where you have to push hard to get to the end result before everyone gets bored. :-)

Assuming there's nothing more fundamental wrong, some people will take longer to get up to running speed & fitness than others, and you shouldn't expect to be able to do too much, too soon. Walking is still exercise, and walking fast is virtually the same as jogging slowly.

So forget the running thing and build up slowly. There's nothing worse than setting goals which are too tough; they just demoralise you and set back your plans. As long as you're getting out of breath at some stage doing it, you'll be pushing yourself to get fitter and healthier.

I'm doing a Runner's World plan - it's 26 weeks from zero to running 30 mins continuously. Yes, half a year but it's just the ticket from going to a sedentary lifestyle to a more active one. If you want, I can send you the timings RKO?

I'm just dropping by for some motivation, I remember how difficult the struggle was. I went through a difficult period where I slabbed up fat and my health deteriorated pretty badly until I took action.

Free weights, no cardio and a clean diet. Then I educated myself and learnt more about my body.

Here's me last week:

Earlier on in the year I packed on pounds due to an injury and difficulty in diet. The I took a resolve within 3 weeks: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=18408614&postcount=1258

The difficult part is understanding and gaining knowledge. Once you learn that, the rest is history.

I was also on Stronglifts: http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-results-asif-deadlift-review/

I hope it gives someone inspiration.

Just. Don't. Give. Up. Ever.

Thanks. What is annoying is how many times I've done the same jog completely fine. Just something about yesterday didn't happen. The good kind of pain you feel after a run came about a quarter into the run this time and actual pain soon followed.

Since September I walk at least two miles a day from walking to or from work and then I walk during work as well. Maybe make another mile some days.

Right now I have a stomach a little bigger than that but not as much moobage.:p

LOL, rotters. I forgot you were on your bike for a sec. I thought you had RUN! My jaw hit the floor. Bravo anyroad!

Well ive managed 160 calories on my exercise bike on monday and 100 calories on tuesday. Had meals roughly 1400 calories in all on mon and same on tues and 1100 calories so far today with some biscuits about 3 and a chicken curry (guessin calories on some things as home made).

I missed 100 calories today and its too late as might wake upstair neighbour if i did the bike now.

One thing i dont like is that the seat is really uncomfortable it kinda isnt padded enough so i stick a folded towel on it but isnt ideal but helps a little to stop the seats hard bits under the cushion of the seat being felt.

Gona keep at it best i can tho, try 100 a day (maybe 200 if i can tomorrow). And see if i can maintain or increase it to 150 next week.

Oh its 100 cal per 10 mins aprox. Yeah i know its not long and i could do 1 and a half hours at a gym but ill get better i think as i go and last longer and longer to get the required calories burned off that will actually do somit.

Im hoping i can lose enough in the next 3-6 months that i can start using the treadmill without being over the weight limit, then that should help a lot when i start doing that.

One thing i have started to get back into is just drinking water instead of pop or coffee and tea. Also helps me not feel as hungry which is a good benefit.

I went out for a bike ride with the missus last night, did close to 10 miles in 50 minutes according to my speedo.

I'm starting to get back into riding and I'm finding it less difficult each time, I could have gone for longer and faster but I didn't want to storm off in front of the missus and also I wanted to be back home to watch the apprentice :P It's surprising how fast my cycle balance has come back, I'm back to being able to ride no handed which is handy for having a drink mid ride :)
