2011 Weight Loss Thread!

Cookie12 has appeared in an online magazine so it's nothing he hasn't already said here.
With his permission I'd love to put the before & after pics with his face blanked out because personally it is the biggest weightloss I've witnessed.

Cheers Dmpoole and lol at the drawing :)

I've posted pics before so it's cool. I've done it for you.

Had another letter from my GP today which basically says the PCT have refused my skin removal op for the second time and not to reapply for at least one year. During the next 12 months i need to demonstrate i can maintain my current weight before they will agree to it next year. Pretty gutted because i know even if i get accepted next year , it's not exactly going to happen overnight with waiting lists etc so i'm probably looking at best 18-24 months before even getting anywhere near having it done, which is pretty crap to be honest.

Gutted for you because I know exactly what you've gone through.
I suppose they view it like a transgender operation where you have to prove that you want to live that life before they operate which, when you think about it, makes total sense.
You've been a big guy for a long time and they need 'proof' you won't go back to your old ways.
Chin up and now you can move on to your goal and in a years time you can get the operation done.

Another update.

I achieved my target in the quote above (a little late though), I now weigh just under 15 stone. The weight loss is slowing down a lot now though, and it's funny that I don't look any different now than I did at 17 stone (although I was always one of those people who never looked as heavy as they actually were).

I've been to see a diabetic specialist and a dietician today, and my blood sugar levels are a lot more stable now, despite the lower carbs and weight loss, good stuff.

I think I'll set myself another target.. Let's say 14 stone by February, considering the weight loss has slowed down a lot. I may require another diet change to achieve this, but now that I'm carb counting correctly it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm now 14 stone, will aim for 13 stone by February instead.

Been reading this thread and feel too i'm heading in the right direction. Started trying to excercise more/eat better/generally loose weight in the last week of June. Started at 19.6 stone and so far down to 16.4. Think I will be happy once I hit 14 stone, and then will see where I want to go from there.

14 stone is my current target before evaluating if I want/need to go lower, currently at 15 stone 10 pounds from a known high of 22 stone and 7 pounds in January of this year. I'm 6ft tall if that makes any difference.

Body seems to have settled around the 12st 4lbs mark, which considering I was at 17st is brilliant.

Really gonna hit the cardio lots this week, I'm going on Holiday december 16th, I'm determined to tone some of this remaining flab on my stomach

Just saw this thread,... lost 10lb in 6 weeks planning to carry on until I feel to stop... not considering it as a diet more a lifestyle low carb type diet.

good luck peeps

Have read this thread a few times but never posted because i've found it so hard to lose weight in the past, but recently last 9 weeks i've put it altogether and managed to loose a total of 32lbs so far :-)

My starting weight was 322lbs, currently 290lbs and my target is 200lbs - I'm 6ft 3"

Just wanted to say well done to everyone who's lost weight or currently loosing weight.

You're doing very well then, certainly loosing it at a sensible rate.

I'm 5'10" and know 14 stone will still leave me overweight, but don't want to aim (yet) for a weight which I couldn't keep up. I may try go lower, I may not, but a 5+ stone loss to get to 14 has got to be a good start.

Either way now down to 16st 1.5lb form 16st 5.7lb since last post (I normally work in kg so last post wasn't taking in lb's), so chipping away at it. Would really like to be below 100kg (so 15st 10.5lb) by the 1st of January, shall see what happens.

I'm going to wait until the 2012 weight loss thread. :p

This, I only need to lose a stone to put me on track for what I would like to weigh, hopefully won't take more than 2 months.

It's maintaining that weight that will be the real challenge!

Some great successes in here. Any updates?

Hi There,

Thread has gone quiet recently, so i'll update.

I'm now down to 16st 12llb, so that's a total of 14 stone lost in 15 months :)

I've started to move away from mainly cardio exercises and onto more toning exercises with weight machines etc. Need to try and do something about all the loose skin i have. It won't completely go with the exercise but it will help. I have been told by the PCT i can re-apply for my skin removal surgey in April 2012 (6 months sooner than i previously thought) as long as i maintain my weight loss etc.

I've also been asked to talk at a regional obesity forum in the new year about my story, there will be health professionals and people working in that field attending as well as people trying to loose weight. A little nervous as i'm not good at those things but i'm proud they've asked me to represent this area as apparently i'm one of the best examples they have seen to loose so much weight in the last few years without surgical help or weight loss medication :)

That's amazingly well done Cookie, truely awesome! Have you been given a rough estimate on how much skin weight could be taken off?

My weightloss is still progressing slowly but surely, down to 18st 5, from around 23.5/24st earlier this year.

I think I've got about 4lbs to go before I'm overweight and not obese which is gonna be a big milestone for me. The last time I weighed as "light" as I do now was when I was 17, 8 years ago.

Oh my! You were 30 stone? It must feel amazing to be as light as you are now. Congratulations.

Thank You

Amazing is spot on. I can't tell you the difference in terms of how i feel, levels of fitness, my attitude towards food.

When i was at my heaviest i could barely manage 10 minutes at a decent walking pace on a treadmill. I can now run / sprint for short periods. Walk at 12% incline at 3-4mph for 1 hour. I spend 2 hours at the gym when i can doing 1 hour cardio (bikes / rowing / cross trainer) and then 1 hour on weight equipment (alternate days between upper and lower body).

It was very very hard when i first started and i can see when people get that big a lot of them will fail when trying to loose weight without surgical help. I'm lucky that i get quiet stubborn and determined when i put my mind to something if that makes sense. But then of course i should never have allowed myself to get that big in the first place!!!

Cheers rusty noob and congrats on your achievement too.

My GP said it really is hard to tell how much my excess skin weighs but he estimated about 1 stone!!!!

My goal is 16st 7llb (6ft 3in) as that would put me in the overweight category rather than obese and that would make it feel like a massive achievement as i would have gone from morbidly / super obese down to the overweight category.
