2011 Weight Loss Thread!

Question folks, what does your daily routine consist of with regards food/exercise?

I exercise mainly at the weekend, mainly downhill biking so spend a good 5-6 hours on saturday and sunday going up and down steep hills.

Food

Breakfast: 2-3 weetabix with skimmed milk (everyday without fail) it keeps you feeling fuller for longer than most cereals i have tried.

Lunch: Chicken / Ham / Cheese (not all together :)) sandwich on brown bread for dinner. Have things like soup i.e. light meals at weekends for lunch.

Tea: Loads of variety ranging from Chicken & Beans, Ham Salads, Wholemeal Pasta with home made sauces like tomatoe the list goes on.

Always have a treat meal once a week so it doesn't get to boring, so i can have a chicken curry with rice (indian or chinese) or steak and chips.

You need a healthy / balanced diet with some variety thrown in so you don't get bored with the same foods and also you must enjoy the food you eat or your doomed to fail.

Exercise

I have built up my exercise as previously stated but i now try and do at least 1 hour of exercise 4/5 times a week, and at the weekends i go the gym twice for 2 hours each. It doesn't always work out like that, things happen to take you away from stuff like exercise but i just keep myself motivated and get back to it a few days later :)

One thing I was wondering about - how heavy do you have to get to for loose skin to become a problem when you lose weight? I suppose it varies between men/women/age etc but is there a rough weight or % body fat?

I have no idea, but it is a major problem for me lol.

I think it depends on a number of factors, how big you are, how quickly you put that weight on, or more importantly how quickly you loose it. I believe that is one of the reasons they tell you to loose weight slowly i.e. 1-2llb max a week, the slower you loose it the better your body adapts and your skin contracts better.

Even though i am now considered to be a more "normal" weight and on the surface i look ok, the loose skin is still embaressing and affects my confidence (single guy on the lookout lol) and i won't be completely happy until it has gone / virtually gone either via the exercise or more realistically surgically, if the NHS help me.

Thread bump.

I though i would finish off the 2011 weight loss thread with a few more pics.

Last week i finished off at 16st 9llbs (started at 30st 12llbs at Aug 2010). I'm having a break from the exercise and having a few treats food wise until the new year, so may put a pound or two back on, but i don't care it's christmas, but i will get back into it again next week :).

I've been doing a bit of shopping today looking through the sales etc, and i've had another (my 3rd) clear out of clothes that no longer fit (way too big lol).

The t-shirt on the following pics was a good fit i.e. not tight but not loose by any stretch of the imagination lol. Don't worry i've got boxer shorts on underneath :) - there's also a photo of the pile of clothes i'm getting rid off, and my mate with the t-shirt on with me is a slam man, it's been a good exercise tool!!

I'm sure there will be a 2012 weight loss thread, and if i loose any more, especially if the pct fund my skin removal op, i will be back :).

Tremendous, people that are obese should read this thread instead of going for the gastric band option.

Anyone can lose massive amount of fats.

I was 17st 5lbs at the start of the year after several years of beer and no exercise. Come September I nearly failed my degree which was a kick start. Hit the gym and started doing MMA. Now (well before Christmas :D) I am at 16st on the dot. I don't really see it when I look in a mirror but other people do and the photos of me this year are remarkably better. I have dropped from XXL shirts to L/XL and from a 40inch waist to 36inch. I imagine it would have been even greater difference if I cut out takeaways and alcohol. (My January goal)

I am so much more confident (hell have a girlfriend for the first time in three years) and feel a lot better. I had a bad month from mid October to mid November when I just felt plain terrible: I wasn't sleeping, I was throwing up a bit and just general gloominess sunk in. I like to think it was just something stored in my fat which was released when it broke down, probably something else but meh.

Goal for 2012? Get to 14st 9lbs (205-LHW) and see what I look like. I am not a small man, very broad naturally so I want to see how the weight looks on my frame. Will hopefully progress on to 13st 3lbs (185-Middleweight) by this time next year.

goal for 2012 is to start to look after myself and loose weight and start cycling again :) would love to be able to cycle to work but at 4am i'm not so sure and at 15 miles in snow in winter could be bad lol

That's the sad thing about the PCT turning him down because he hasn't cost the NHS anything and done it all himself.
Obviously they want to make sure he can keep the weight loss and I've no doubt he'll get his op next year.

Lost another stone since May, down to 16.5 now. Still a long way to go, but I'm going to make sure I do it properly now rather than messing around like this year. Hopefully be down to a reasonable weight by the end of the year, although I'm not sure what sort of target to set for myself yet. :o

Cookie12, really awesome work you've done there. :)

I have been following this thread throughout the year.

I started on 1st Jan 2011 and the picture on the right is from 31st Dec 2011, here is my progress.

Well done fella, thats some achievement you should be proud of that, it gives me hope :)

Dam right, anyone who does that deserves the pludits.

I started at 17+stone nearly 5 years ago. In less than a year id took that down to less than 9. No secret, just eat less, and less grease and sugar.

Still weigh 9/ish now... i looked just like Mr steroyle... double chin, man b's.. spare tire.. now on the voyage of discovery, mixing the eating habits and the gym/running, less than 9% body fat, tone of an elite athlete.

The only downside i find, is all the insecure people around me, i get more hate for what i did/was able to do from people than i do applause. I get people i work with defacing my lunch box with slurs, i was ordered to remove my cooking equipment from the canteen ect for no reason after 5 odd years of it being there...same people would throw water over my chair so i couldn't sit and eat in there.

Just bad stuff, the only downside, some people just don't like what you could and they can't:(
