Because as far as I can tell, most other teams don't change half the XI every game and expect the team to play well. You put a couple of players in to see how they do but you have your first XI playing for the most part.

We haven't had anything like our first XI in any pre season which I can't see as anything but bad luck and stupidity. I know that we have injuries (Nani and Young) and "injuries" (Rooney) but we haven't seen a full strength side out yet.

Is Hernandez injured too btw?

We should win this pretty easily but we have not looked great pre-season and I don't expect us to be able to turn it on at will. Especially if Valencia is playing on the wing.

i'd love wigan to win but even i would admit that if united do lose, it will have little bearing on things. they must be shattered.

I worry a little about Smalling's positional sense, but he's quick, strong, and very good on the ball. A lot like Rio Ferdinand 10 years ago. He'll learn where to stand.
