2013 IndyCar Series / Mazda Road to Indy discussion

We're seeing the fastest Indy 500 on record, over 190mph average.

Some drivers choosing to turn front wings for less downforce to sprint to the end.

Kanaan and Hunter-Reay battle for the lead on lap 188.

Edit: Dario crashed in turn 1 on the restart :/

Great for Tony Kanaan, a shame we didn't have a green finish though.

Nice job by Munoz to take second place as a rookie as well.

Fastest Indy 500 on record averaging 187.433 mph.

Indycar Series Round 6 & 7 of 19: Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans

15yvktl.png

Venue: Streets of Belle Isle, Detroit, MI
Track length: 2.36 miles
Race length: 70 laps (165.2 miles)
Lap record: 1:13.056 (Juan Pablo Montoya, Lola B2K/00-Toyota, 2000)

Overview: The Detroit Grand Prix began as a Formula One race in 1982, through the downtown streets surrounding the Renaissance Centre. Ayrton Senna won the last three F1 races held there between 1986-1988. It became an Indycar event under CART sanctioning from 1989 to 2001, moving to Belle Isle in 1992. After a 6 year gap, Indycar returned to Detroit for 2007-8, halting the event subsequently due to economic problems in the city. In 2012 the Detroit race was revived for a third time, despite historical difficulties with the quality of the tarmac surface and paddock\spectator areas. 2013 will see a double-header event with two 70-lap races as opposed to one 90-lap race in the past.

Cool double weekender  Is this the only one like this do you know?

How will qualifying work for this will there be separate qualifying for each race or some sort of GP2 style flipped grid for the top runners or something?

Hopefully it'll be a good weekend.

Toronto and Houston (those will have one standing start).

One qualifying session per race.

Edit: Oriol Servia is expected to take over the Panther seat for all races after Detroit - http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/indycar-hildebrand-out-at-panther

It's speculated that Ryan Briscoe may return for additional events with Ganassi when they do not conflict with his ALMS schedule.

Only just caught up with Race 1, was a decent race... Was indeed a great race for Dale Coyne.

Looking forward to race 2, think it'll be another catch up job as I don't think it's on till pretty late.
