2013 - Morba's Cake fed Strongman Log.

i think my thumb issue started on monday with deadlifts. It was commented last night that at the top of the rep I was for some reason letting go with my thumb before putting it back on the bar and lowering the weight. Not a normal thing for me to do, but wonder if i was doing it because of some pressure/pain.

I try to go as narrow grip as I can with squats, which actually isn't that narrow i don't think lol. damn my poor flexibility!

thoughts:
was doing ok until I wen't and done some one motions. Was hot in the unit and I overheated badly. Confident I can get 100x8 one motions in my comp though, will keep practicing them to get some cardio back while doing them!

after the one motions I just felt ****ed, strength just disappeared. Must do them at end of workout not at start before working sets in future!

Learning point: if doing one motions off tyres, use 1 tyre not 2.

Thoughts:
Nice to squat with minimal pain. Needed lots of rolling to make the knees ok enough. Nice deep squats (or low, not sure on depth tbh but was going low). did 5x3 easy enough, will try 5x5 next week.

Bench was just to see the slingshot difference, simply it makes a lot. Look forward to trying it properly soon.

incline dbs, not done these in AGES!! actually felt my chest working (I dont feel it when benching normally). Liked it, might have to use these more often. Only issue was flicking them up to get them ready to press!

Was more about speed than weight today, happy with how fast I was moving. Comp weight is 260kg yoke and 110kg farmers. Yoke is more concerning but will drill it over next few weeks :)

double under hand, strict pull from deadlift position as the bar just passes the knee (so standing as I would in a DL as bar is at knee then staying there and pulling the bar up):

Then as normal things kinda go odd.
Roll the 500kg tyre out into the road for some flips. I wasn't expecting anything other than normal back work so only had my flip flops with me (deadlift barefoot) so this wasnt going to be good.
Never flipped it before, so had to put this demon to bed.
first attempt - easy, boom!
got 2 more flips before giving up due to sweaty feet and no grip :D stupid lol

thoughts:
deads were terrible, tbars were easy though that could be my smal ROM. tyre was awesome.

Half way through doing tyre some local Polish people who live just up from the unit saw us with the tyre and decided to come have a look and try it. They couldnt budge the tyre at all (to be expected really as they were thinner than my arms).
One of the women with them seemed to like me, kept taking pictures and getting her friend to take pics with her and me. No idea why as I looked stupid in my flipflops but she was happy enough lol.
They then followed us into the unit and the Pole blokes wanted to arm wrestle us!! They lost that each time (though one had some good strength for this!).
Crazy!

Thoughts:
bicep hurting, still is today, guessing its from doing the silly tyre on monday. Not happy.

z presses with a log is crazy, they are hard enough with a barbell due to balance but with a log its something else. Good though, wont do them again will just drag the bench out like we normally do!

New shoes were tight as hell, gonna work on my arch though and these will bed in a little. Can definitely see the benefit in them, just need some time to get used to push pressing with them :)

Other than me, few friends came from another gym for the session.
One of them threw a 150kg log up pretty easy and then became the first person to load the 180kg stone! Our 192 isn't in good shape for lifting so he decided against it. Immense shoulder strength and fantastic stone work!
He's only done a 130kg stone before, his gym is lacking in heavier equipment and he's never used tacky before!! Crazy stuff.

Thoughts:
had my adipowers on all session, first rep of the push presses were vile as my brain forgot I had them on. Each rep after though was fine.
Still felt tight as hell though, but will soldier on with them as I can see they definitely improve my position.

Thoughts:
Wanted to do deficits and some 18" deads tonight, see where I'm weakest at the moment.
The 18's were easy enough, the deficits clearly show that I'm lacking from the floor.

Next weeks deads: work up to 220kg from 2 or 3" deficit before doing full range doubles above that weight.

everything felt heavy tonight so decided to keep it simple, especially as squatting first time in my new shoes.
