make sure you haven't packed the soil too tight as well, my last aji that hadn't broken through yet I think was struggling as the soil had packed down a bit. loosened the soil up and the stem has popped up today.

Progress update, the Moruga's seem to be leading the pack with the 7 pots lagging a bit. First Carolina Reaper sprung up yesterday as well.

Interestingly, this one has sprouted with three leaves, never seen this before on any of my plants.

Mine are making some progress.

This is the propagator in situ above my main BOINC rig, applying heat from the top radiator from 2 GTX690s and 2 Xeons running full tilt - toasty
In there are the ones that haven't sprouted yet - mostly the ones from the dried chillies I didn't expect to sprout anyway. The row on the left are sweet peppers (Sweet Banana) that were planted about 10 days ago. The first one of these just started to show this morning. I'm going to leave the propagator in place until the sweet peppers are all through and leave it for another week or so just in case any of the others make a late arrival. By then they will have been in over a month and if they're not through by then, chances are they won't be coming at all.

Quick pic of the shelf (a metal wire shelf robbed from a shelf unit) cable tied to a couple of brackets fixed to the side of a chest of drawers and to the underside of the top of my desk.

These are my seedlings under the grow light:

Finally, a close up of the seedlings:

From left to right: Jalapeños, Scotch Bonnets, Hotscotch (that's what it says on the packet - apparently it's a mix of Habaneros and Scotch Bonnets - I suspect, from last year, that they're Habaneros), Cayennes, New Mexicos and Naga Bhut Jolokia.

I'm going to have to pot them on soon as a few of them are a bit spindly (Jalapeños are worst although the Cayennes aren't great either).

I'm a bit amateur for this thread, but the grow-your-own kit I got 3 weeks ago is finally starting to sprout a few little shoots. Hopefully within another week a lot more will start showing through (it said allow 4 weeks on the packet which seems pretty accurate so far, despite not having much light or heat in the area).

I'm going to be going away in 10 days for ~1 week though, if I just give them a decent bit of water before I go, re-potting them isn't going to be too time critical during that period is it? I could try and get them in my car but I'm not sure giving them 500 miles on the road is going to help much...

The only issue is that both overwaterering and underwaterering are bad. If you can get a gadget (or mate) to water them a few days after you go, they will be fine. I think drip feeder is the term used. A quick google led me to this site, with some imaginative DIY urban gardening, which should inspire you to figure something out.... http://urbangreensurvival.blogspot.co.uk/p/hanging-bottle-garden.html

(if you don't want to use sponge, you can buy 'capillary matting', which can be used to transfer water from one place to another, like a wick).

That's pretty cool with the bottles.

I must admit I was in ikea yesterday and spend an obscene amount of time in the kitchen section looking at plastic bowls/boxes and grills working out how I could adapt them into some sort of hydrophonic :D

They look quite interesting, but don't think I have the time nor the materials to get something rigged before then. I'll just have to take them with me I think. Ah well, they'll be worth it in the end.

This is more what I had in mind. Basic idea is to use a capillary matting/wick and this chap shows how to do it cheaply/free:

Transplanted some of the seeds started off on kitchen roll into potting mix.

Also sown some more random chillies. Not entirely sure what variety they are. Why not?!

They're all loving it now in their new windowsill tray/propagator thingy.
