2014 Chilli Growers Thread

Scotch Bonnets:

xKB1vUx.webp

4 ripe, 1 nearly ripe and 1 starting to ripen. That sounds like enough for a batch of Jerk sauce. Will get that sorted tomorrow, get it rubbed on some chicken and fire up the BBQ :D Looking forward to my first batch made entirely with home grown Scotch Bonnets

Also got 3 Habs ripening and 4 Nagas. 2 of the Nagas are nearly fully ripe so I should be using them before the end of the week.

Nice. I really wish I had been more proactive with my chillies. Much like every year :p

This is the first year I've really taken it seriously and the results are evident. I've learned a lot this year and will endeavour to apply lessons learned next year.

It never ceases to amaze me that people use big pots but don't fill them to the brim with soil. Bigger roots give a bigger plant and bigger plants give more fruit. It's a no-brainer.

Pretty much yes, assuming they also have good sunlight, otherwise they will become spindly as they strive to catch more sunlight.

Lovely picture that Stan. OOI, those who already have fruits, is this down to using grow lights or plants from last year?

Mine are all new plants, grown from seed this year. First couple of months or so under lights and then transferred to a south facing bay window that gets a lot of sun through the day. Measured the Scotch Bonnet this morning again and it is now over 52" high. Not bad for a plant that's only supposed to grow to 18" :p

Looking forward to next year starting with mature plants.

Your and other's plants on here are certainly inspiring. Hopefully I'll be in a position housing-wise to do something similar next year.

I will get grow lights when I eventually get my own house. Space is a bit of an issue with myself and GF living in two rooms. Luckily we do have a nice south facing bay window and I have a pretty big propagator to start them off :)

All mine are really coming on now! Cayenne's, Jalapeno, Prairie Fire, Super Chili F1 are all fruiting nicely. I reckon another week and Jalapeno can be picked.

Ive had 50+ chillis of my Apache F1 that was planted xmas day. Click to enlarge

that's the 2nd batch and they are all picked now and plant is putting out more flowers.

The only plants that are not fruiting are Scotch Bonnet and Orange Habenero.
Here is my scotch bonnet, Picture does not do it justice its a really strong THICK stemmed healthy plant. It has got about 10 buds on it but none are close to flowers yet! Click to enlarge

My habanero is not fruiting either - but my aji is fruiting like crazy! I heard somewhere that the hotter peppers take longer to fruit or fruit later in the season?
