2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying and International Friendlies 21/22/23/25/26 March *** Spoilers ***

I was trying to think of one England player who is good with the ball at his feet in and around the opposing box last night, and couldn't. We have nobody in the country fit to polish the boots of Cazorla, Silva, Mata, van der Vaart, even players like Valbuena, Modric, Kranjcar. We just don't produce that kind of player, and completely lack any creativity as a result.

It's the same issue as has been discussed for ten years. We produce big strong fast players who can do naff all technically. We won't win anything until that changes.

lol Suarez scores a good goal and it's genius, RVP scores a good goal and it's lucky

It would have been incredibly easy at that pace for RVP to get the wrong kind of contact on it and not even direct it at goal the fact he managed to get the right contact and loop it over the keeper aint lucky it's world class finishing. More of the same against the rent boys please

I forget RVP is renowned for his heading ability!

It's the same if Henry scored it in his prime, the guy scored one headed goal for Arsenal so forgive the guys who think RVP may of got a bit lucky with that goal.

it absoloutely is. just another limp-wristed and totally unconvincing performance it's been like that since euro '96.

its all ENgland are capable of. This idea that they are a wrold class outfit needs to go. They aren't and haven't been since Italia 90. What you saw last night was England and how they play, you won't get anything better out of them, because that is all they have in the tank.

Wilshere is starting to look like that player for us, but injury wise it's not looking good.

To an extent, but a lot of the time he's running on to the play. Ideally, we'd have him going box to box, somebody defensive, and an in/around the box player. Sadly we're missing two of them, and the one we have is injured all the time!

Indeed, there are several players in that team that on form and ability don't deserve to be anywhere near that squad, sadly they're still probably the best we have in those positions though.

RVP scored a very very similar header away to Southampton earlier this season and actually yeah RVP has scored some other very good headers over the last couple of years - away to Liverpool and Spurs being two that instantly come to mind so on that basis you could say he is known for being a good header of the ball

who do you suggest starts in their place? ALl 3 of those players have got good PL form so why wouldn't you pick them ?

Well Johnson has been injured and looked unfit so pretty much anyone else. Baines in for Cole and Lampard in for Gerrard. Gerrard has done nothing but score a few penalties for Liverpool whereas Frank is having an excellent season.

In terms of Milner, I'd rather play Hodgson.

Please excuse his second highest assists in the league and 8 goals. Who got the assist for england's goal last night?

I love the way people moan about so and so being selected, but then are unable to offer a viable alternative.

Hodgson knows Milner is industrious, works hard, is solid - not spectacular - experienced and intelligent.

Alternatives? I Chamberlain is far from ready, Lennon isn't International class, Walcott wide is hit and miss. Ashley Young could do a job there but he's gone so far backwards in terms of his prominance since joining United.

Defensively we have a good choice of full backs, centrally we are really struggling - 10-15 years ago, the likes of Lescott, Caulker, Cahill would have no chance of getting a cap. Hart has no competition at all.

In midfield, we lack creativity - Lampard and Gerrard are at ages now where they are unable to dominate games.

Up top, Rooney remains a good international player, but Wellbeck certainly isn't and there isn't much to back him up.

Steven Fletcher is out for the rest of the season after picking up his ankle injury the other day against Wales. Sunderland are in trouble!

Been trying to think of an exciting England lineup. Best I could come up with:

Hart

Johnson--Ferdinand--Jagielka--Baines

Wilshere--Lampard

Lallana :o

Sturridge--Rooney--Defoe

Play narrow through the front and middle, and get width from the fullbacks pushing on. Let Rooney drop off, and play two goalscorers ahead of him. Lallana's the only player we have who's even half decent with the ball in the final third though :(

To be honest, this shows how short we are in midfield and up top as much as anything.
