2014 IndyCar / Mazda Road to Indy season

2014 Verizon Indycar Series Rounds 9 and 10 of 18: Shell-Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston

2v3ldgn.png

Venue: Reliant Park, Houston, TX
Track length: 1.68 miles
Race length: 90 laps (151.2 miles)

Overview: From 1998 to 2001, CART held a race on Houston's streets, but the event was not renewed in 2002 due to new construction. In 2005, the Champ Car World Series announced that it would be making a return to Houston in 2006. The 2006 event moved to the Reliant Park complex, joined by ALMS until CCWS ceased operating in the 2007-08 off-season. 2014 retains last year's double-header format. Pro Mazda, Spec Racer Ford, the Mazda MX-5 Cup series and a vintage event will be supporting the Indycar races.

2014 Verizon Indycar Series Round 11 of 18: Pocono Indycar 500 presented by Sunoco

2z7raq0.jpg

Venue: Pocono Raceway, Long Pond, PA
Track length: 2.5 miles
Layout: Triangle
Banking: Turn 1 - 14 degrees, Turn 2 - 8 degrees, Turn 3 - 6 degrees
Race length: 200 laps (500 miles)
Lap record: 221.273mph (Marco Andretti, Dallara IR-12\Chevrolet, 2013)

Overview: Nicknamed "The Tricky Triangle", Pocono Raceway opened in 1971 and differed from existing oval-type tracks in its three unique turns with varied banking. Indycar under CART sanction ran a 500 mile race at Pocono until 1989, as part of the 'Triple Crown' of ovals offering bonus prize money in recognition of the difficulty of winning the award. Pocono returned to the Indycar calendar in 2013 as a 400 mile event, but will be extended to 500 miles from 2014 onwards. The track also hosts Indy Lights, ARCA, Nascar Truck series and Nascar Sprint Cup races.

Andersen Promotions have partnered with the Australian Formula Ford championship to provide the champion a two-day test with a USF2000 team, and a scholarship to contest the series. (http://www.nationalspeedsportnews.c...s/andersen-teams-with-australia-formula-ford/)

This adds to similar links with the Canadian and British Formula Ford championships, and the Latam Challenge series based in Central\South America.

Venue: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lexington, OH
Track length: 2.258 miles
Race length: 90 laps (203.22 miles)
Lap record: 1:05.347 (Dario Franchitti, Reynard 99i-Honda, 1999)

Overview: Indycars began racing at Mid-Ohio 18 years after the construction of the narrow and winding circuit in 1980, continuing between 1983-2003. Following re-unification of American open wheel racing in 2008, the Indycar series returned to the circuit, with Scott Dixon winning 4 of 7 races held since then. All three of the Mazda Road to Indy junior series (Indy Lights, Pro Mazda, USF2000), along with the Pirelli World Challenge, will be supporting this weekend's race.
