2014 Verizon Indycar Series Round 16 of 18: ABC Supply Wisconsin 250

Venue: Milwaukee Mile, West Allis, WI
Track length: 1.015 miles
Layout: Quad oval, 9.25 degree corner banking
Race length: 250 laps (253.75 miles)
Lap record: 20.028s/185.5 mph (Patrick Carpentier, Reynard 98i-Mercedes, 1998)

Overview: The Milwaukee Mile has a long and storied history, having first hosted powered vehicles in 1903 - making it the oldest motor speedway in the world. Racing legends such as Jim Clark, Mario Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi all competed here, with Clark being the first to win in US open wheel racing with a rear-engined car in 1963. Indycar (then sanctioned by AAA) first added the track to its 1937 schedule, and subsequent races have been held every year since, with the exception of a 4-year hiatus during World War 2 (and 2010). Indy Lights and Pro Mazda will also race at Milwaukee for their penultimate events.

2014 Verizon Indycar Series Round 17 of 18: GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma

ip1emv.png

Venue: Sonoma Raceway, Sonoma, CA
Track length: 2.385 miles
Race length: 85 laps (202.785 miles)
Lap record: 1:17.2709 (Will Power, Dallara DW12-Chevrolet, 2012)

Overview: Sonoma Raceway sits on high ground at Sears Point featuring multiple elevation changes, overlooking the Californian desert and a short distance from San Francisco. Indycar under USAC sanction raced once at Sonoma in 1970, 2 years after the track was completed, with Dan Gurney winning in an Eagle-Ford. It wasn't until 2005 that the modern incarnation of the Sonoma event began, with the race length gradually increasing to the current 195 miles. The 2012 layout changes remain in place, although the Indycar version remains slightly shorter than the full 2.52 mile circuit. For 2014, all of the Mazda Road to Indy ladder series and the Pirelli World Challenge will be supporting the Indycar race. Other major series Sonoma hosts include Nascar Sprint Cup (on a shorter 1.9 mile layout), AMA Superbikes and NHRA drag races.
