2015 Chilli Growers Thread

Stepping it back this year after nearly killing everyone with my jam. Birdseyes for every day use and some yellow Habanero just because they're different to what I usually grow. Keeping it simple. Might start off end of next month. Will be looking at 15-20 plants max.

It's not a very good deal. Unless you live in some random country.
Don't think I've ever ordered seeds and not got freebies, regardless who I got them from.

Really want Piri piri seeds this year.

Currently attempting my first over wintering. Not exactly confident. But worth a shot!

I just received my order, all well packaged and selophaned.
I also got a free packet of Kashmiri Mirch :)

So did I. :)

I already had some dried Kashmiri chilli's and I tried to germinate some of the seeds last season. I don't think it was early enough to have been much use, but it was more of an experiment to see if they were active. They did germinate, but it is good to know I have some proper seed now.

You have a nice selection to grow, and the Kashmiri is a fine pepper too.

The seeds I saved from last year's chillies and attempted to sprout failed and went mouldy. Suckage. Just not warm enough where they were kept I think.

Guess I'll order some hab seeds and get them going asap.

Ordered the top 10 from South Devon Chilli Farm and will get going mid Feb when I have a free weekend to play with soil! We've got grand plans for little chilli plants for wedding favours, but that's all the way in August, so some experimentation with sowing and germination to the perfect sized plant will take place.

I'll be growing less plants this year, I ended up with over 40 last year and it was too many! hundreds and hundreds of chillies and I ended up giving the vast majority away.

I will be doing a few each from seed of 7pot (my favourite), Carolina reaper (my favourite for sauces) and some Jalepenos I think. I dare say I will end up picking up a few "pre-grown" plants from my favourite garden centre during the year.

I'm going to grow loads with the intention of giving them away. A nice chilli plant is a lovely gift.

Well I've been feeding my overwintered Aji's and Scotch Bonnets and appears only potentially 3 Scotch Bonnets have survived and only 3-4 Aji's at the moment. One scotch and one Aji going strong and the rest showing new shoots of life and i've been aggressively feeding them. Body count is 5 so far, confirmed dead. Shall see what happens to the rest now.

I think i'm going to grow probably 2-3 Carolina Reapers and 2-3 Bhut Jolokia. If anyone has any viable seeds they are willing to post would be greatly appreciated.

Also i have about 10 Scotch Bonnet seeds from South Devon Chilli Farm plus about 20 from some I've tried saving and I have some spare stamps to burn so if anyone wants them let me know. The seeds from SDCF are good seeds, I planted 10 and got 9 seedlings last year I think. The ones I saved are probably hit and miss and untested.

Let me know if anyone wants some

Here we go! Only a few this year (last year got out of hand had about 40 on the go)

Back 4 are Orange Habanero
Next row is supposed to be Jalapeno none have sprouted!!
Next row 3x Cayenne
Closest row is 3x Scotch Bonnet and 3x Apache.

All seeds are from last years plants. Hopefully ive got some more Jalapeno seeds left if not ill grab some.

11th of January I planted all those.

Cheers,
Sean

I'd be grateful for some seeds from you HybridX.

Anyone had any problems with aphids and black fly ? I've got two nice green pepper plants that I'm unable to clear successfully. I've tried holding the plants upside down and hose set to spray and rinse the buggers away...no luck so far.

Ill dig them out and i'll send you a trust message for your details once I've found them. You can have the ones from SDCF and i'll save the others if anyone else wants to try their luck.

I've grown all mine in a spare bedroom last year so no bugs to deal with :)

thanks - received - really apprecaite it - first time growing so need to get looking up some stuff.

Is trying to germinate them on top of my boiler a good idea? it's obviously warm but not too warm?

or looking at this - Garland Super7 Electric Heated Windowsill Propagator G51

You're welcome. I hope to see some pictures of some chillies later in the year :)

Try this video for germination tips:

Aim for constant temperatures of approx 27 to 32. I have used a modem which I leave on, as these can be good constant temperature for small scale growing. If you can go for the heated propagator that would be a benefit.

Right - heated propagator ordered - some other chilli seeds as well. Will get some good quality compost from local garden centre and get growing!!! Excited!
