I read yesterday that Sweden's womens national team lost 3-0 to some club under 16's in a friendly, the under 16's only had 10 men as well because the Swedish manager asked them to leave a defender out.
Can't find a source for that anywhere?
I find arguments about quality amusing. On a good day a conference team or lower can compete with a league 1 team yet thousands watch league 1 so i don't understand why some people say women's teams are so poor and write the entire sport off as "ha no i wouldn't watch that its like sunday league".
The sweden - nigeria game showed that the sport can be entertaining and there were some fantastic passages of play. It's only the last decade that there's been proper funding so I reckon give it a chance. Imagine if there were 32+ teams of Germany / USA / Brazil quality then there would be real interest.
Thailand vs Ivory coast highlights on bbc are highly amusing. Its nice to see some emotion on the pitch but maybe thats a little over the top.
Can't find a source for that anywhere?
Lots of people enjoy watching non league football but it tends to be when they have an attachment to a team, as a neutral people tend to watch the best a sport has to offer. I enjoy watching Premier League Darts on Sky but I wouldn't watch a couple of drunks down the pub going at it.
Exactly, most people want to watch the best a sport has to offer, not someone who is decent but not great.
I don't think that funding is going to mean that womens football becomes brilliant either. Womens reactions, power, speed and strength is simply not on a par with mens.
So why do so many other womens sports do well such as Olympics and tennis. Maybe it's just down to the exposure of being run at the same time as the mens sports? Maybe the womens world cup should actually be run with the mens. It wouldn't hurt to have the womens games before the mens in the same stadium.
I prefer womens tennis because it's not just about 140mph first serves and one return. I enjoy the entertainment of the womens world cup and accept the lower standard because they haven't had the years the mens game has had or standard of coaching.
I'd certainly rather watch this than Englands mens.
