2015 FIFA Women's World Cup ** spoilers ** [6th June - 5th July 2015]

It's dissapointing as although i knew France were a better team especially based on the 3-0 they handed to us not long ago, we did push them to penalties at the euros.

Based on highlights from back then, it seemed more even than now.

I keep trying to give this world cup a chance but so far every game ive watched has been pretty terrible :/

I read yesterday that Sweden's womens national team lost 3-0 to some club under 16's in a friendly, the under 16's only had 10 men as well because the Swedish manager asked them to leave a defender out.

There are some decent players in the womens game who score some screamers but you get that at all levels of football. Even sunday league players bang in worldies every now and then. Its just not very fast paced and the general quality is not amazing. Goalkeepers are still awful as well.

Can't find a source for that anywhere?

I find arguments about quality amusing. On a good day a conference team or lower can compete with a league 1 team yet thousands watch league 1 so i don't understand why some people say women's teams are so poor and write the entire sport off as "ha no i wouldn't watch that its like sunday league".

The sweden - nigeria game showed that the sport can be entertaining and there were some fantastic passages of play. It's only the last decade that there's been proper funding so I reckon give it a chance. Imagine if there were 32+ teams of Germany / USA / Brazil quality then there would be real interest.

http://www.thelocal.se/20130116/45646 , theres been a few games along those lines all with similar results. Though not hugely surprising considering the mens game is decades ahead and they have a considerable physical advantage.

I agree with giving it a chance, it can only improve and the more support it gets will only help that. The problem is that too many of the countries aren't competitive at the minute, i feel they have increased the number of teams too early. I am hoping it will get more interesting when it gets out of the group stages.

I watched China vs Netherlands last night. Wow, the Chinese are great fun to watch. Fluid attacks, comfortable on the ball, just can't finish (until the 91st minute that is haha).

Thailand vs Ivory coast highlights on bbc are highly amusing. Its nice to see some emotion on the pitch but maybe thats a little over the top.

Probably some of the worst defending I've seen in any football match at any level. I honestly think that some of the defenders I've come up against in Sunday league football are better.

I agree with both asico and fez, there are some very good attacking players and some of the goals scored are outstanding. However, most teams are extremely poor defensively.

Having said all that, as asico says, it is still early days for the women's game and if there were more teams of the quality of Germany, Brazil and USA, things would improve significantly. It's just the smaller countries where the game really is in its infancy that show a lack of quality. Given a few more decades and some support, I can see women's football being highly entertaining, though admittedly I can't ever see it rivalling the men's game.

You obviously didn't try very hard.

Lots of people enjoy watching non league football but it tends to be when they have an attachment to a team, as a neutral people tend to watch the best a sport has to offer. I enjoy watching Premier League Darts on Sky but I wouldn't watch a couple of drunks down the pub going at it.

Exactly, most people want to watch the best a sport has to offer, not someone who is decent but not great.

I don't think that funding is going to mean that womens football becomes brilliant either. Womens reactions, power, speed and strength is simply not on a par with mens.

So why do so many other womens sports do well such as Olympics and tennis. Maybe it's just down to the exposure of being run at the same time as the mens sports? Maybe the womens world cup should actually be run with the mens. It wouldn't hurt to have the womens games before the mens in the same stadium.

I prefer womens tennis because it's not just about 140mph first serves and one return. I enjoy the entertainment of the womens world cup and accept the lower standard because they haven't had the years the mens game has had or standard of coaching.

I'd certainly rather watch this than Englands mens.

If you think the top mens tennis is all about huge server you are entirely wrong. It has been a golden era of tennis for the past 10 or so years because the mens game has been dominated by players that are not just big servers. Nadal, Federal, Djokovic and Murrey are all fantastic players and a big part of that is returning serve. Womens tennis isn't anything like as good in my opinion. Watching shots win points that wouldn't get anything in a mens match is just sad. Best of 3 sets is never as exciting either.

Womens athletics is nowhere near as big as mens and neither is tennis yet because Wimbledon runs the two simultaneously you think they are?

I don't care if people enjoy and want to watch womens sport but in general I don't. If people prefer womens sports then thats cool but I am getting sick of the media and various other places shouting about how its just as good as mens sport and that they would be as good given the chance.
