2015 FIFA Women's World Cup ** spoilers ** [6th June - 5th July 2015]

I think you would have to compare the viewing figures for the mens and womens finals to get a handle of popular they were in relation to each other, any idea what they look like?

Last year men's final was 3x as popular as the women's in terms of peak viewing figures.

Yet the prize money is the same for mens and womens tennis dispite the difference in popularity and the fact that men play best of 5 instead of best of 3.

Womens athletics is nowhere near as big as mens and neither is tennis yet because Wimbledon runs the two simultaneously you think they are?

No I think it has helped drag them along. Gain exposure running at the same time as the mens events. If the womens olympics was ran at a separate time like the womens world cup I doubt they would be making anywhere near the figures they do, the same for tennis. I don't see why they can't do the same with the world cup.

**** me, Ecuador were absolutely dire. I didn't think Ivory Coast's lame performance against Germany would be topped. I'm amazed they actually managed to score a goal.

One thing that is nice to see, is the lack of cheating, at least compared to men's football. Some of the men act like big girl's blouses. I get so wound up by the diving cheating prima donna's in the men's game, I'm glad to watch some women's football for a change, even if it is over a lower standard.

Hopefully the overall standard of the women's game does improve though, because some of the better teams can play some good football.

Of course it will improve with better coaching and funding. Plus you can't go to watch kids football now without seeing few girls in the sides. The best keeper by far in one of our leagues is a girl but no doubt she will tail off at secondary school. I don't imagine it will be long before there is a forced quota in the kids game. They have it for hockey at local school tournaments.

When I was in School we had a girl in the team (Going back like 11 years), and she was good. But back then, at Secondary school it tails off like you say.

She could actually play though lol.

Some of the outfield play for the womens football isn't actually bad.

Could have gone either way, IMO.

Watched my first game of the world cup last night. First pass went straight out then the England defender nearly fell over the ball from a throw in straight after. Some of the passing is horrendous, I was expecting a far better quality at least in that. Wont be watching any more.
