2016 : A Pivotal Year For AMD, Nvidia, PC Gaming And VR

Too expensive, in my view, but I'm sure as the technology improves the prices will eventually come down.
A bit surprised at the headphone comments, are you people saying that you would prefer to use your own headphones, or just have the full speaker experience?

The speaker experience I can sort of understand, even though it strikes me as a bit like when my son is on the XBox on the TV in the lounge and on his headphones. You see what is going on but cannot hear it, in the VR case it would be you can hear it but not see it. Of course the user wont mind because he is the one with both the audio and visual components. a bit embarrassing if your watching pron and your family come home, as you wont see them come in.:p

The separate headphone thing, I can understand that people might want their own headsets, but surely that will make just sliding the VR headset off a whole new issue, as you've got separate headphones to deal with as well. Just imagine, pause game, remove headphones, lift up VR headset, reach over and grab drink, replace VR headset, replace headphones, un pause game, then the phone rings, @~&*£$%. :D

Just seen the price, £530!

Gonna go off to the subreddit and swill some delicious butthurt.

If that floats your boat, knock yourself out!

Does anyone know if the £529 includes vat?

Thanks.

According to my orders on the OR site, it apparently does, so that is a bonus. I was expecting to get some nice VAT on that as well but apparently not

Yeah, scratch my earlier comments on pre-ordering. I was willing to go to 400, 5 is ****ing pushing it. Especially as it was supposed to be $350 (so £250ish) originally, I know cost went up a bit but it's double that now. Screw them till it's cheaper. Much as I'd love VR, I refuse to be ***** in the ayy like that =(

And I guarantee it's not "at cost" by any stretch, lol

yes, the one issue with GAMING is the gameplay and not the graphics but seeing as how little has been done to improve gameplay (Artificial Intelligence) all of the effort goes into improving the graphics capabilities and hence the experience via realistic immersion.

Personally the graphics have gone as far as they need to, time for better and more realistic gameplay. Afterall making needing more hits to destroy and foe and then having to slay more of em is not a means of better gaming. Its just frustrating

Every game is becoming painfully easy. Just playing through Ass Creed Syndicate and dear lord, the easiest of the lot. It's divided into levels yet you can assassinate much higher level enemies straight away and you can get away painfully easy. There has not been one hard fight, the 'big' gang wars literally last about 10 seconds, the last one I did I threw two bombs in about 3 seconds and won the 'war'.

AI hasn't improved in the game, in fact it's getting worse, no attempt to make the stealth more realistic or complex, no attempt to make the game harder(not just more frustratingly bad following stupid ones but genuinely harder fights). There is so much filler junk, perks that are meaningless, more damage doing this or slower detection... when you're already completely overpowered.

Most games are like this, they are getting dumber, easier and having more collection/completionist crap added to them but not better AI, more difficulty, more complexity.

Watchdogs, hack everything, on or off, pressing one button with quite a lot of quick time crap added like barriers in a car chase along with the dreadful police chase AI/realism where police cars are instantly and always much faster than you.

As much as I loved a lot about Witcher 3, it's painfully easy with awful AI and again massively overpowered character so early in the game making all combat exceptionally easy. It got bigger, but not necessarily better. There are things about it that are better, but combat, difficulty and a huge amount of the filler they added in the bigger map weren't parts that made the game better.

i think VR is going to be very much like 3d gaming, pretty much a flop. I think it will be too much for a lot of people. I dont see myself wearing a massive VR headset, doesn't appeal at all.

lol i stoped playing assassins creed at episode 3, one episode every year, and each episode is a copy past of the rest.
and thats why i love Dark Souls so much, they throw you in the world and let you figure it out, could be frustrating at times, but the challenge makes it worth a while.

Pretty much anything first person shouldn't be too hard to make compatible with Rift and likely worth playing. I'm not sure how third person or top downs etc would work with it though, be interesting to see what kind of viewpoint games experiment with in VR.

Let's face it, this is an enthusiast product right now, is £529 that much? Wouldn't think so. There's a lot of "first to market" in that price as well, which they should rightfully milk. Ultimately, I'd rather have the Vive anyway & I don't mind waiting.

Might have paid it without the prior lies, but it'd just leave a bitter aftertaste if I paid that now.

They ballparked $350 and now release at almost double the price of the DK2? They have bundled in a controller (which i don't need) and headphones (which i don't need) and you will have to pay extra for the motion controllers?!

When Vive announced it would cost more then the rift i was expecting it at around this price point with the oculus being cheaper. If valve can release the vive at $599 then its pretty much game over for oculus. With the vive you get motion controllers, laser lighthouse stations for full room VR and complete steam VR support. It would be a no brainer for anybody on the fence. They could probably price it $100 more and it would still be the better deal.

I am really disappointed that it is so highly priced but hope it will come down. I really want to see this tech flourish and to do that, it needs to be affordable and sadly for the most, £500 isn't affordable. Reading forum/reddit, I was led to believe that Oculus would sell at cost but if that is cost, I am even more worried for the Vive

Fingers crossed that mass production costs end up cheaper (which they will) and it then becomes more affordable by the masses.
