2016 : A Pivotal Year For AMD, Nvidia, PC Gaming And VR

How can anyone enjoy such low resolution literally a few cm from your eye?

I'm not saying it's impossible and exaggerated a tad with gpu power a tad, but still.

Weird innit. I just get so immersed in the game and the VR effect is so well done, it actually feels like I am flying a space ship. I look down where my hands are and I see my left hand corresponding with my throttle stick and look to the right and see my right hand corresponding to the joystick. I fly into battle and see an enemy scurry over the top of me, so I lean forward and look up to see him try and get in behind me. It seriously needs the right games for it to work but for me, it is a complete game changer :)

It sounds fantastic, and if it works in games as well as described, it will be a great niche market.
Unfortunately it will always be a niche market, due to cost and of course having to have an alien facehugger stuck on your bonce.

Its the same reason 3D never really broke out of the gimmick/niche market, people don't like having to wear stuff that stops them being able to see normally.

so you are so positive for VR, but you've not even tried it yourself yet? that is pretty funny

Why's that funny? I've not played Cyberpunk 2077 and I'm still hyped for it. I've not seen Batman v Superman - still hyped for it. I'd not used 21:9 screens before buying this XR34 - I was still hyped for it.
Why is trying something before being positive about it now a prerequisite? O.o

VR isn't even in the same league as 3D. Until you experience it, it's impossible to judge how it will be.

Having tried the Rift and Vive myself at last years EGX I cannot wait for them to arrive. Christ I'd happily spend £500 on either just to experience what I did again in Elite Dangerous, it was utterly mind blowing.

Virtual reality sickness is a still a issue. I hear it seems to be 50/50.

I do read up on it daily, I browse reddit religiously ;), the number of issues reported are far lower than you make out, certainly no where near 50/50. Those that have experience sickness wasn't because of the hardware, but more the software. Specially that games or programs that impose motion on you while your stationary.

Think of using a controller to move a character around, while your standing. That will make you puke. That's not a hardware issues, that's bad programming.

If you read up on it though lots of people are still having issue. Doesn't matter for me though. I could care less for VR

You say "I could care less", that means you have the ability to care a lesser amount than you do at the moment, therefore you care about VR.

Good to hear you care about VR. I do too and am really looking forward to it.

Also the boast of Valve is that there has been zero VR sickness in Vive demos, as tracking is near perfect.

(Edit for this news story link explaining why people can still get VR sick, hint - its not the hardware causing it anymore)

I didn't say it was a prerequisite, just that the way you were speaking was as though you had a basis from which to speak. You even said "I don't see how it could flop"... if you had tried one of the headsets kicking about you would have a better appreciation for the problems it faces, which mean it does have a very real chance of being a flop

imo they are taking a big risk releasing in the state they are as people who try it now and don't like it could be turned off permanently, lumping it in as a fad type thing like 3D

Sorry Offtopic.., However the 'queen' does reinforce your point :)

Yeah, I don't see how it could flop based on the amount of positive feedback I'm hearing. I didn't hear any of this when 3D came about, with the exception of Avatar - everything else I heard was negative, thus it flopped. My experience may well be a poor one, but I'd be one drop in an ocean of positive experiences - that's why I can't see it flopping :)

I would like to point at something missed completely over many pages and many discussions.

If Nvidia put support for DP 1.3 with Pascal cards, that meas by default support Freesync on hardware level.

Ironic...... hahahah

the same exact monitor model sells with 150-200£ difference in the same store, one is freesync the other is Gsync, price difference is too high to be ignored, and more monitors using freesync are released monthly, time for Nvidia to close Gsync shop and take the freesync train, makes it better for everyone.

I completely agree. Look at the prices currently. They make no sense.

erm...
DisplayPort Active-Sync remains an optional part of the specification

yeah, the price difference like for like is also as little as £30... so is that NVidia's fault or the monitor manufacturers?
the other thing to consider is that for example the LG 34UM65 still sells for a higher price than the LG34UM67 (which has freesync)... if anyone can't see why this indicates a problem then...
at the end of the day retailers will sell monitors for whatever price they need to to shift units, if a product is maintaining its price it means it is selling well
