2016 : A Pivotal Year For AMD, Nvidia, PC Gaming And VR

I am prepared to wait to see an eventual winner before committing to any VR headset make. Though considering Oculus rift was bought over by Facebook is an indicator they are not going to be games focused. I suspect Vive will be the main gamer focused VR.

I have certain times of the day where my Mrs watches her soaps which means I get 2 hours of uninterrupted game time, which is when I pop on my headset and off I go. I often have a drink as well which does involve me lifting up my headset and sipping before sliding my headset back on. Think of it like a baseball cap and that's basically how it works. If someone wants to try and drink with a headset on, good luck with that lol. Being a shift worker and my Mrs being a 9-5 worker also gives me some toher times to play of course, so it isn't a problem for me.

Alt and Tab works flawless and no issues at all. Motion sickness isn't something that affects me really but if you have a hangover from hell, you might want to leave it alone but then again, I leave all gaming alone when I am hanging :D

My gripe is people who knock things before trying. I remember your good self saying you don't need 120Hz, as your TV you game on is perfect.... You got a 120Hz (or 144Hz) and you was like "Wow!!!! this is amazing", you then said you wasn't interested in G-Sync or Freesync, you then got a freesync monitor and was like "Wow!!! this is amazing". I am just using you as an example and not personal but people should at least try it and it is nothing like 3D and shouldn't even be compared. 2 completely different things and not even close to the same level. 3D has nothing even close to what VR offers.

The TV part I can't remember saying that? I do remember saying my TV was fine for gaming at the time but I always wanted a 120hz monitor setup.

Freesync and GSync I have always said I really want to give it a try I was very interested in trying. Just so happens I also wanted 1440p 144hz Freesync was a bonus and a very good one. Something I was first to say how shocked I was.

Same with VR it is something I really want to try. It's only normal to have questions or concerns.

Quite simple really!
If am playing on PC or PS4 I can still do other things while playing.
Take a drink or eat
talk to people in the room

etc etc

I asked whats his view on this so far.

In the Vive there will be a camera on the front for video passthrough, you will not need to take it off to take a drink.

As for talking to people that has been an issue since headphones were invented. Any headset and mic setup can have passthrough as well though.

Like I said bud, not a dig at you and more a dig at people who have not tried it and writing it off.

The camera at front is clever that would work I guess.

All is good.

Look at a keyboard to type? :D

Yes and what is wrong with that, not everybody in the world touch types and even the ones that do still look at the keyboard every now and again for various reasons.

A camera pass through is a cool idea especially if in flight sim games the feed could be displayed on one of the in cockpit displays.

All you have to do is slide up the goggles and rest them on your head. I have the game mirrored to enable easy typing, so I slide it up and look at my monitor. No stress or anything.

We dont know that the camera will be used for pass-through at all. It's certainly positioned in the wrong place for that kind of thing.

I'm not too sure on the concept of drinking beer through a straw...
I'm just gonna have to deal with bottles when in VR.

As I have mentioned in previous threads as well as this one, I am really looking forward to the VR explosion in 2016.

I got to try a DK2 out for a few minutes at a Lan Party over Halloween weekend and it was a demo of an office like room and not even with realistic graphics...more like low res type graphics from what I can remember.

However, I turned my head and I saw that I was extremely close to a desk behind me and at that precise moment I automatically moved away from it as I thought that I might fall over it.

That is what got me the most....even though it wasn't the most realistic depiction of a desk with objects on it....I moved away from it by instinct so that I wouldn't fall over it.

I personally, for this reason think that I will have no problems with the immersion factor in games like ED which have far superior graphical capabilities and I'm really looking forward to VR in a big way.

As long as they support it with good software then I think it will do well.
:)

I am hoping that today, being the first day of business in 2016, is the day when pre-orders go live. Or at least an announcement on release date.

It's 04:51 in Menlo Park. I'll be hammering F5 come the close of play in the UK :D

Key word there Maonayze is support. Like you I can see it taking off so long as it gets get support. Mostly it is a few scene demo's and although they are very well done, it needs some bigger games. BF5 with controllers would be epic, Eve is looking sweet already, ED is jaw dropping, even some of the older games like HL2 are very good and people big up Euro Truck Simulator as well (got it but not tried it).

Games coming are:

Sequenced

The Climb

Plus loads more, so it is looking good.

I've tried DK1 and DK2 and there have been some nice improvements between the two. Until people actually try it for more than 2 seconds; have a good run through they really don't and won't have a clue.

I've been waiting for VR since the first attempt; I'd build my own goggles; hacked nin powerglove into 2.5D glove *was missing .5 axis for full 3d VR glove; but it worked pretty damn good*......

This is next step and after that full dive VR......now that will be game changing
