2016 : A Pivotal Year For AMD, Nvidia, PC Gaming And VR

I would like to point at something missed completely over many pages and many discussions.

If Nvidia put support for DP 1.3 with Pascal cards, that meas by default support Freesync on hardware level.

Ironic...... hahahah

Nope, it's still optional on 1.3 spec. I reckon it will always be optional. But maybe Nvidia will make their next gen cards support adaptive sync.

yes, they make a new bran name, then work on the driver, they probably will make better job that AMD with their resources and side of the driver division, still way better than pushing for Gsync that seem to be going nowhere, and no new features to make you 2nd guess it.

The Future of VR - Valve HTC Vive Hands on!

I must say I so really need to try this VR stuff out, am hoping I get a chance to try without buying. My only worry for myself is headache I get from 3D.

About the tech they is also having to remove the headset for a drink for example taking you out of the game you playing? Greg whats your view on this?
Or what about you sitting in a room with your Girlfriend/Wife or even mates lol
Anyways JackFrags shows some very nice footage here.

Don't really understand the context for your question? Are you asking Greg what he thinks about drinking? lol

Greg hasn't tried the Vive so it depends on how difficult the headset is to remove, I'd imagine not very.

No its the whole point of to do anything other than the game you have to remove the headset, look at the keyboard to type, chat to anyone in the room, how does it work with alt tabbing out of a game for instance.

Quite simple really!
If am playing on PC or PS4 I can still do other things while playing.
Take a drink or eat
talk to people in the room

etc etc

I asked whats his view on this so far.

VR is a peripheral that you will use at certain times. Do you see people drinking or eating while using a racing wheel?

All you guys going on not even trying it.... Tsk tsk

I was very dismissive of it for quite a long time but finally tried it out about a month back. It's very impressive and as someone that suffers a *lot* from motion sickness in many games on a regular I was impressed by how little it affected me in that way.

With only fairly minor improvements I would snap up a VR headset. Once the consumer units are out for the Oculus at the start of next year I will be keeping a very close eye on things.

As others have mentioned, until you try it, you have no idea what it is like. It cannot be explained in words you HAVE to experience it.

Only then will you realise what its all about and its real potential to change everything. The 5 minutes I had with it back at EGX playing Elite Dangerous changed my perspective on VR totally and as someone who has experienced VR back in the 90's I was dubious about it this time around. That all changed in an instant. I own a google cardboard and xg vr headset and even my 64 year old mother is amazed at how it feels like your actually there when trying different apps.

So just how good is VR with a decent headset?

Does it completely trick your brain into thinking you're actually in the game, scene, whatever? Or after half an hour when the initial 'wow, this looks real' wears off, does it become just another cool gimmick?

HTC are showing their consumer release off tomorrow I believe. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on that.

What's the problem with using G-Sync with SLI?

Searched online and couldn't find anything? Ordering an X34 tomorrow so I'm curious.

When I played elite dangerous at EGX they had a flight seat with a hotas setup, when the headset went on, I felt like was actually in the cockpit of that ship, this was only the first developer edition of the Vive, but it totally blew my mind.

I am a massive Elite Dangerous fan and with the DK2, I get fully immersed in the game. There is some caveats like the galaxy map and using a keyboard can be tricky but the pluses massively outweigh the minuses for me and I genuinely can't wait to see what the Vive is all about or just stick with Oculus and grab the CV1. Even games like HL2 work so well, it just makes it like a new game but for a truly jaw dropping experience, you need to like ED.

Yeah I'm aware of that particular issue, but judging from some of the posts on the first page of this thread it seems as though there's some underlying debilitating flaw?

Nope, there really isn't. Been using both SLI and G-Sync in tandem for what at least is 8 months on and off. Besides the above mentioned lack of DSR support. Maybe it is more game specific, but I play quite a lot.
