***2017/18 Pre-Season Thread***

Salah's workrate and first touch have been a really nice surprise, I expected more of a pace merchant to just get on the end of attacks rather than an all round player.

1-1 Williams

Edit: One on one with Lovren never ends well for us. Having said that, one on no one hasn't always worked out in his favour either.

Edit: 30 minutes of fantastic attacking football followed by 15 minutes of car crash defending. We really can't go in to the season with Lovren as a first choice CB and Klavan as cover can we? :(

Wijnaldum playing as the deepest midfielder? Following on from my post in the transfer thread, it's looking increasingly likely that we might not move for another midfielder if this & Milner playing in midfield is anything to go by.

Been impressed with what i've seen of Solanke in the games he's played in pre season.

So have I...so much so in fact, that I really cant see how Ings will get back in the side, Origi, Sturridge (on the rare occasions he is fit) , Firmino and now Solanke must surely all be ahead of him in the queue

Almost an own goal there. Not far wide.

I would still like to give Ings a chance once he is fit. Be harsh on him not to and I think he could replace Origi in our pecking order. Thats if he can stay fit and find the form he had 3(??) years ago.

Edit: Another goal for him. Hes looking quite the player for us already. Great cross as well.

Agree about Solanke - he's shaping up to look a really handy squad player and a bit of a bargain.

And he scores as I'm typing that.

edit: re Ings. His career with us is over and I don't think Solanke's signing is the only reason either. Contrary to some people's belief, I'm not sure Ings was ever a player that would have featured under Klopp. Yes he's got great energy and work rate but he doesn't have the technical ability nor does he have the physicality to fit into any of the front 3 positions for us. Maybe if we were playing a front 2 he might have had a chance of featuring but he's not a lone striker in a side that will be dominating games and he's not going to play in the wider roles either.

Solanke has SO impressed me in preseason that I want to see him as more than just a squad player, I really do think he has it in him to lead the line for us. I'm almost at a point where I want to see him as our first choice number 9 when we are needing one for the formation. He seems talented with both feet and head, he is big, tall and powerful, even at this young age. Right now, he is the striker in our ranks that I think can cause the most damage this season

He's played well and certainly made a claim to be ahead of Origi but it's a big ask to put himself ahead of Firmino or Sturridge when he's fit. That said, if he carries on taking his chances as he has so far then there's no reason why he can't stake a claim for being first choice.

We will do I think, I said this ages ago and every one I spoke to thought I was nuts, (not on here). Klopp genuinely think ks our defense is fine and as he said it's all the team that has to do defensive work it also gives an automatic excuse for the likes of klavan and lovren a get out clause for the stupid continuous errors.

People play it on the way we play, I strongly disagree as our errors are mostly just individual retarded mistakes.

There is plenty of other centre backs out there who could improve us that isn't dijk.

That being said even before klopp our defense was utter ***** so our coaches must suck too

I commented on a microphone being a bit too close to Klopp - there's a clip doing the rounds on twitter where you can very clearly hear Klopp's dissatisfaction with our performance :D

Search "Klopp play ****ing football".

This is very interesting....

The Feyenoord goal shouldn't have stood then by the looks of it. I wonder how this can be counteracted, a player from each team given the ability to challenge? 1 challenge per half. Naturally you'd make an attacking player responsible for it, as he'll usually be closest to the penalty area. So in theory, you have 2 ref's per team. In that instance, a Vitesse player would have challenged and play would have stopped, there wouldn't have been a Feyenoord goal then..

hmmm...
