***2017/18 Pre-Season Thread***

Decent performance from us earlier today. Great to see Henderson back fit again after a long lay off. I never thought I'd see the day that he became a holding midfielder but I have to admit he's proven me wrong - he was passing the ball like Alonso at times today. I'm always cautious of being too impressed with new signings in pre-season as they often try a bit harder than others as they have a point to prove but Salah's looked exciting in his first couple of games - his energy and pace is going to be a real asset for us in the new season.

Lukaku scores against Man City, great speed, power (keeper bottled it) and a good finish into the empty net from a pretty tight angle.

And Rashford makes it 2 with another great finish.

Looked like a good game between United and City. We could have had a few more goals and City probably should have scored a couple too. Good to see Lukaku looking so sharp in front of goal as well. Did not think he would put the ball after being forced wide by the keeper.

Just watched the highlights. I love how Fellaini's only appeared once in the highlights, when he passed it straight to a City player so he could have a shot :D

That was their first friendly right? Going to be tough for Ederson settling in, a really high pressure role. Much the same as when De Gea joined us, even if Ederson is a little older.

West Brom - Palace isn't proving to be a very friendly, friendly. Like every Pulis side, West Brom have spent the entire game kicking chunks out of Zaha and the rest of the Palace side and it's come close to boiling over a few times.

Not only were Arsenal terrible in the first half, Ospina tried to kill Pedro(who went off likely with a concussion), the refs somehow gave Arsenal a freekick for Pedro getting punched and I believed elbowed by a flying Ospina who may well have handballed it outside the box.

Then the second half is delayed due to arguing with the officials because Arsenal forgot to put Giroud on the team sheet and tried to bring him on in the second half. Eventually he came on anyway but this is amateur hour stuff all around from Arsenal.

lol, Arsenal really turned it around, brought Kos and Giroud on to try and get back into the game, 3-0 down after a few minutes.

Liverpool 1-1 Leicester after 20 minutes and there could easily have been more goals. A midfield 3 of Wijnaldum, Lallana and Coutinho is probably the reason for such an open game :o

2-1 up at HT. Coutinho the star of the show - first a disgusting pass to set Salah up and then his trademark goal, cutting in on his right foot and bending it in the far post.

edit: and Champions!

I think our midfield was the biggest factor. We looked far more solid in the 2nd half, when Klavan played, when we had a natural central midfielder in the side.

12 months ago I'd have considered playing even one of Coutinho, Lallana or Wijnaldum in a midfield 3 slightly risky. For them to make up a 3 is far too adventurous though, especially when your 2 fullbacks are naturally midfielders too.
