***2017/18 Pre-Season Thread***

I think our midfield was the biggest factor. We looked far more solid in the 2nd half, when Klavan played, when we had a natural central midfielder in the side.

12 months ago I'd have considered playing even one of Coutinho, Lallana or Wijnaldum in a midfield 3 slightly risky. For them to make up a 3 is far too adventurous though, especially when your 2 fullbacks are naturally midfielders too.
Positive side least klopp is experimenting better to try it here than in competitive games

Ronald Mcdonald giving the match ball, ah Murica. Strong team from Madrid, pretty much their strongest available. A mix of youngsters and regulars from us.

great trickery by Martial - not sure the defending was that great though (RM look as though they are a week or two behind us in pre-season schedule, which would make sense considering La Liga doesn't start until later)

What Martial was missing last season though

The few minutes I missed contained the goal but I have just seen the replay. Martial just turned into a monster there!

Utd's 2nd string side (1st half) did a lot better vs RM's near enough their 1st XI than the 2nd 45 that had Utd's 1st XI against RM's U21's /U19s

Not helped by Herrera lasting 5 minutes, but still pretty bad

fellaini playing 90 minutes in central midfield didn't help admittedly

Yeah I thought we did quite well considering we were a man down.

De gea is bossing this shootout, two saved out of two. Sadly we've missed two.

That penalty shoot out was ******* awful from both teams (and why the **** did Lukaku not step up?)

Fair to say DDG made one or two good saves - vs Utd 's really terrible misses for the most part
