2017 Chilli Growing - feel the burn!

Yup, I would have thought that 4 years may be too long for the seeds :/

I'll be going light - with perhaps a couple of plants. Not started yet due to other commitments but something not too hot so they will take less time.

The sunfowers (3rd generation) have already started.. so I'm way behind this year :/

One thing to try is put them in the fridge for a night - in case they need a cold cycle. Not tried it myself but just in case?!

Ok this year was a cheat..
2x Bhut Jolikias (one outside of pic)
1x Trinidad Scorpion
1x Mild version of the Trinidad Scorpion (I assume a hybrid)

Bhuts and Scorpion have been loving the hot sun in the conservatory and I mean loving it. They're in large pots so have lots of moisture to tap into.

bug spraying the little gits.. spray I'm using is safe to eat the same day (basically suffocates them) but they've been looooving the sunny outdoors :D although I bring them in overnight.

Got back after a week and the chilli plants had almost deceased.. water and chilli focus applied and they look to be recovering.. lots of fruits :D

Picked up a cheap chilli "La Bomba" plant from B&Q, it's about 30cm high, are there any rules I should be following for it?

Jalapeños are relatively resilient. I've grown them before. Don't over water is the main thing as they don't like roots always sat in water (rot).

I typically give them some water with chilli focus in but once a week or so I will 'dunk' the pots (but so the water doesn't break the surface of the soil) so that the pot sits in water for about 5-10 mins. Then let the pot drain for a further 5-10 minutes. I have my plant outside in the sun all day but 30cm may be a little too hot all day without a bigger pot and more roots to access more water.

Is getting chilli focus an absolute must? I only have the one chilli plant (plus 8 or so tomatoe and 8 or so runner bean plants) to look after?

Not really but I found that tomato food is too rich and baby bio seems to kill more things in my hands. Chilli Focus does work really well though. However if it's a new plant and repotted it's likely to have enough in the soil anyway. Chilli plants evolved in areas without much nutrients and varied water.

What do you mean by "30cm may be a little too hot all day...." ??

Younger plants may not survive in blazing hot conditions because they don't have enough roots to absorb enough water. So keep an eye out on it.

If it does dry out - dunk in water and leave for 20 mins, take out and drain - then leave it for a couple of hours away from the sun. Mine have looked dead but revived before so try to revive it before condemning it!

^^^ that white dot is the site of a fruit fly maggot :/ cut the pepper off the plant but looks like there's a couple of bigger exit holes.. so mental note next year to put some yellow card traps down early on in the season.
