2018 Chilli Growing thread

Appologies if you have posted before @Street but how do you dehydrate?
Oven or proper dehydrator?
My seed chilies I just do on top of my router, works incredibly well for that purpose, but its not up to the amount I produce each year

Mine are all frozen, but they are talking up a lot of space. i think I could use a handful a day and i would still be using them when next years crop was ready so I am getting constant tuts in regards the space used in the freezer ;)

I tried a few methods but ended up buying a dehydrator on Amazon. I just wish I'd bought one sooner as it's so much easier to use. I use this one but it looks like it's gone up in price since I bought it. It's handy for jerky as well which is a bonus! :)

The thicker fleshier chillies I slice open, but the rest I just dump on. I usually run it for 24 hours and it seems to do the job well.

Yeah, I'm going to get a dehydrator too. I use the oven at the moment at under 100c and it takes a while and there's a risk of burning.

Smells lovely though.

Thanks street

Its always been my experience that drying is tricky.

Problem is I cont think of much i would use it for other than chilies. Think I may hold off for now. We are planning a new cooker for next year/early the following and the range one thats top of the list has a slow cook oven as one of the cavities which may suit the process.

My chillies seem to be going soft on the plant inside - weird.

I think I'm just going to chop them down and put them in small pots as advised here until early next year (indoors).

I want some hot ones next year, this year bought from garden centres and a random local man were a bit rubbish.

Any suggestions on some hot stuff and where to buy and went / how many to plant per pot please?

Thanks
