Harvest #2

Harvest #3

They're still coming. Though a few are scolding in the sun due to lack of foliage protecting them. So I've placed a thin sheet above them in the lean-to for now. Probably a couple of weeks left in them.

I put 1 orange Habanero in a pie last week. Almost ruined it because it was so hot! Lol! Come to think about it, I don't think they're standard Habanero. I'll have to dig out the seed packet.

I'm really struggling to get the last of mine to ripen now. I've still got a fair few Reapers and Habs on the plants but the recent drop in temperatures and lack of sunlight has meant they've stayed green for ages.

Same. Last harvest this weekend then they're done.

I may possibly dig up one plant to take in.

Dig the best few up, cut the root balls down to size and pop them in 3" or 4" pots. Then cut the main body of the plant away leaving a similar size to the root ball. This seems extreme but it will bounce back into a nice indoor plant... Then next spring as it starts warming up start taking it outside and move it to a much bigger pot/ground and go from there. Will give the plant a huge head start for next year.

I do this most years, and (before moving and getting rid of a load) had some that were 7+ years old.

BonChi! WOW!

My first attempts playing with tiny pots:

Yes, the big Purple Princess got lopped down to fit into the pot that is next to it. 8cm Diameter pot.

If I remember I will get a photo later, its thriving now (as are all the others that I did this to)

Hmm I think you just created me more to do this weekend @samcat
I need to dig up about 4x cayenne, 4x cherry bomb, 3x serrano and some hybrids I seem to have created that were supposed to be hungarian!

Some serrano bonchi would be awesome as they are a salsa chilli so lovely to just chop up with some fresh tomoatos for a fresh salsa

Do it!

The smaller/more ornamental varieties work best/look best... Hence my purple princess and numex twilight which were destined for this.
BUT, due to broken pots I also have a Joes Long Bonchi (12-18" long thin chili's) and Big Jim (GIANT chili's that are more like supermarket pepper in size/scale). Those are going to be VERY silly when they fruit. Should lead to some raised eyebrows. :)

The last of this year's crop of habs and infernos. It's been a very good year, for everyone judging by the pictures. Marvellous.

I've got no idea what the red ones on the right are (against a scotch bonnet for reference)... the seed was out of an Aji Limon pack.

Got a decent amount of heat to them, less than scotch bonnet I think...

I had one of those terrible Wendy house type greenhouses the other year but it blew down and I ended up binning it.
I bought some reduced plants from the garden centre that were in bad shape and just repotted them and they did well outside just in pots in the back garden.
Mrs not best pleased now that I have brought 6 of them in and took over the kitchen window ledge lol. I just tell her it encourages me to cook :P

The one nearest the Scotch Bonnet makes me think they're Paper Lantern Habaneros (or a dominant cross). I grew some this year, pictured above. The way it widens about two-thirds of the way down before coming to a sharp point with relatively straight sides is distinctive to that variety.

F1 apache maybe ?

that's my apache

Very nice. This is the first year since 2010 that I haven't grown Apache. It's one of my favourite peppers.

Chillies are now done this year, apart from one plant that I've left outside the greenhouse that's till going okay, oddly.

Habanero plants.

Demon Red were going strong still, but losing a lot of foliage.

Other half tackling the beds and ripping the beans out as they're done too. Still got plenty of leeks and carrots for the winter.

Habanero plant that's always lived outside the greenhouse is still going, it's a strong bugger.
