I have made the questionable decision to not own an S2000 any more and replace that with an FN2 Civic. Horrendous decision.

I purchased a lower priced example which I had checked over extensively before committing to.
Had a major service at a specialist shortly afterwards and it was given a thumbs up from them with only a small list of minor niggles to fix. Most of which have been done already using parts from a Honda breakers I have been using for around 8 years now.

It needs a few additional bits doing to get it up to my standards however.
2019 will involve swapping the discs and pads for something a bit more useful as the parts on the car currently are blueprint parts and not particularly confidence inspiring.
I will swap the tyres over to some PS4s around March/April as the current tyres on it are garbage but pretty new so its hard to justify new tyres right now.
I have some ARB drop links to install and a few fixes on cosmetic items to address then I plan to leave it alone in OEMish form for the next year at least.

I will get on a few track days this year as my last Type R was a good laugh on track. probably Donnington and Oulton Park.

I don't plan on keeping it long term so will see how it goes and what I can afford this time next year.
Probably another S2000 :p

I still miss my S2000. The GTR is glorious but often miss those go-kart like driving sessions. Can’t think of many cars where you feel so ‘connected’.

I also miss it from a nostalgic perspective as it was originally my brothers who took to France where he moved to, then owned briefly by my father who brought it back over here and used it for a year or so.

Amazing cars and bullet proof

Yeah it went due to two reasons basically.
1. It was costing a fair bit to keep it at a high standard.
2. I needed something more practical.

Whilst a full ice hockey kit fits in the boot of an S2000 it was becoming a chore. I did consider a cheap daily and keeping it but I want to do some trips abroad and having a car I don’t care about too much allows me to do that.

I’ve never been the biggest fan of the FN2 but for 5k you either have boring cars or crap faster cars. The civic has fallen into the latter category but whilst it does have a lot of things I dislike, it does daily duty very well. I’m sure some good tyres and brakes will improve it to a tolerable level for the time being.

It’s a decent stop gap until I decide what I want to do next.

Commute to work, have moved on from car events and track days. I like a bit of power now and again, but I am tired of having so much money invested in a car that doesn’t really do it for me anymore. I would like to change to an R8, AMG GT or the like, but I’ll just be bored again in a few months.

I feel the same way which is why I'm going to keep my A4 for a lot longer than I usually would. I keep looking at Caterhams to fill the gap since I'll never cure my "petrolhead'itis", and remind me why I enjoy driving so much since the M25 and the South East in general has pretty much ruined it for me.

What happened to the gearbox?

Nothing. It's just a bit slow to engage reverse which indicates it could do with a valve body rebuild. Preventative more than anything

!?!

It's a 650i Cab not a Saxo VTR! :p

The dampers are a bit tired at all 4 corners and the front springs also (rears are fine). I figured I'd replace the whole lot and do a 20mm drop at the same time.

Won't coilovers ruin the waftabilty of the 650i? I mean it's not like it's an M6. Drove a new non cab 650 years ago and thought it was gloriously comfortable.

Also, being a 'wobbly' convertible I can only imagine the stiffer and lower ride wouldn't be ideal. Would a BMW damper and spring refresh cost more than aftermarket coilovers?

I've done things like this in the past and I think the suspension mods idea is the petrolhead in you trying to get out. Admit it, you'd be happy with just new, standard, comfy suspension fitted ;)

Edit- ok I've just read about coilovers, strut braces and 6 pot calipers on a Honda Jazz! I feel I should apologise to Rilot, as now the cab on coilies idea sounds ideal. This is pure wind up, right?

I feel I should be now stating intentions to get an R8 and fit comfort spec armchairs...

Well, the 350gt has behaved perfectly so far, so I might treat it to some cosmetics - respray front quarter and bumper and a non wood steering wheel.

Or more likely I'll cheap out and just service it.

I was referring to the Jazz :p It must be a windup, no-one would fit that stuff to a Jazz, especially for long journey or general ferry the kids about use. No way the family said: 'You need to slam this Jazz Dad and while you're at it, stick some 6pot anchors on'.

Anyway, back to the 650, having tried this route before with very expensive Bilstein and H&R setups on M3s and RS6s, both times I found them too firm for my needs. For both cars I returned to standard shocks with updated springs. That was just my experience, but I wasn't suggesting you would put a cheap kit on, just that I don't think coilies suit the style or ride of a 650 cab. Imo of course.

it's true i'm not winding anyone up, but i'm not sure about the final setup until i speak to them before ordering.

Fix a few minor problems with the civic. Then when the snow goes away and the temperature heats up a bit, try and find a nice winding forest road away from Helsinki and have a fun drive. I drove the black mountain in Wales (my old local) a week ago and it reminded me how fun driving is when it's not just straight line roads.
