2020/21 Sack Race

I never understood it though when a club sack a manager who got them promoted from the Championship when they know they're going to be relegated into the Championship. Who can be better to get them promoted again than the guy who did it to begin with? if they had sacked him a lot sooner with the hope of staving off relegation you could understand it.

Similar to Eddie Howe, get a team from the lower leagues to the Premiership earns you no time or loyalty from the owners. As mentioned he was in the best position to get them back up. It's a win win for Wilder, potentially last years exploits should get him a bottom half PL team as his next job or a a big Championship club in the summer.

He wasn't sacked though, left by mutual consent innit.
Disagreement on wage structure and the boards refusal to pay Premier League money and wages for Premier League players so end up with Championship Players on Championship money. And they're going back to the Championship and reckon on easily two or three players leaving for Premier League clubs too.

the above is true he's known as the poundland prince in Sheffield the current owner of the blades he bought a chunk of the club for a quid on the understanding he was going too invest heavily. wilder wanted oli watkins in the summer this was refused villa are paying him prem wages. we ended up with brewster obviously that didn't work out oli mcburnie 57 starts and 7 goals. not good enough too make the step up

any money that was spent on players came from wilders efforts in getting them in the prem league in the first place sad state of affairs really ,Nigel clough described the training ground years ago as not fit for purpose he's not even sorted that out.

yes, he should easily get a bottom half PL team like Arsenal or Spurs as they can't be that far off from sacking their managers.......................

I reckon Mourinho will be gone at the end of the season barring some sort of renaissance. I think Arsenal will stick with Arteta for another year at least unless things get really really bad. Arsenal have been about keeping spending lower and trying to sneak top 4 for a few years now.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Jose gone, was talking to my Spurs supporting neighbour and said to him that Tottenham had gambled everything on winning a trophy and it hasn't paid off (yet), it's one thing to not win anything but play great football Like under Poch but it's another to not win anything playing the kind of turd Jose serves up constantly while paying him the ridiculous sum he's getting.

It will need to get much, much worse for Levy to sack him given the payout José will get if he does. Reckon it would be between £10-20 million pounds

Its not about the payout, its about the damage he could do. £10-20m can be won or lost in competitions quite easily for a team like Spurs and if they have players like Kane, Son etc wanting to leave or not renewing their contracts as a result of him then they won't care about 10-20m.

Exactly, if Kane and Son leave it sends out the wrong message, said to the neighbour it would look like Spurs are falling back towards a selling team, he agreed but did say he thinks Jose's payout would be nearer 30 million so he's not sure who would blink first in that instance

Isn't that just the polite way of sacking someone? "it's not working out between us, agree with us and leave amicably or be sacked"

Depends, sacking someone would usually lead to a payout (Jose has made a mint historically by signing a new long term deal and then getting sacked within 12 months at all his previous clubs)

I think it was more that Wilder wanted more from the board but also didn’t really want to resign or be sacked. Sometimes it is possible to part ways when both parties can see there’s no way forward. If Celtic have any sense they’ll be asking him to start in the summer. What he’s managed to do at Sheffield United is nothing short of miraculous.

I was labouring the point specifically because of a conversation in the 19/20 sack race thread where I was assured that Wilder was unsackable without a change of ownership.

Bye bye maureen
never heard him called that before!

Radio 5 just now "Mourinho has been sacked from Tottenham, and it's unclear if there are many Spurs supporters that will be that upset to hear this"

edit: meanwhile at Spurs' training ground

To be fair, Kane and Son have had very good seasons under Jose (as in goal contributions)
yeah, but all the talk has been of Kane in particular being unhappy and looking elsewhere if Mourinho stayed and no CL football. It's hard to know how much truth there is in that, but not great if so.
