Not sure if you'd call this floundering or panicking about your job really...

Chancellor to bring forward next financial statement
realised no ones going to be investing in the UK if they don't know how we are paying the bill for the tax cuts,
if they don't sort out the NIP that's continued instability for trade, for that investment, with both Europe&USA,
if NHS isn't funded adequately, that investment in (ill) UK workers, also questionable

perhaps the tories should consider that the income inequality in the UK per se versus europe does not make a good case for investment for any ethical company (those who voted for brexit gave govt carte blanche to perpetuate the inequality)

Well said? How often does this kind of thing happen? Its a ridiculous example that is incredibly rare.

"Oh look people on a collective 300k between them can get into financial trouble if one gets cancer and they pay for treatments in other countries that are tens of thousands of pounds"

No ****.
No the point was that people can struggle at 100k wages because of various kinds of scenarios.

Go read the last 10 pages to catch up...

Jesus what a weird boast thread.

"I'm suffering earning over 100k 150k 300k etc etc"

F off. Get some perspective. I don't usually get riled up by ocuk as most people here are high earners, but, most of the UK are not.

Maybe I'm reading the undertones wrong but still you have huge safety nets and options to downsize lifestyle.

Sacrifice has to be made, Boohoo.
Where has anyone in this forum claimed to be struggling on £100k?

So nobody on this forum earning 100k was saying it was tough, just one gave example of a widow who's husband had no life insurance and 5 children? Got it.

Yeah the widow story isn't typical.
Also. 5 kids, insurance that didnt cover the bills and living to a combined salary going down to less than half/half?

Of course it's going to be tough if you're keeping the house, bills etc

Just had a look at what mortgage we could afford if I alone went up to 100k with no other lifestyle changes.

700k mortgage. Giving a house value of 800k

I would be really uncomfortable taking on a debt that large, even if I could afford the mortgage, personally speaking, on £100k gross. Unless I am earning like £100k net, I would feel i would be constantly underwater with that size of mortgage with roughly £55k after tax.

A lot of people have a similar look when they actually do hit the 100k range - that's why they're not as comfortable as they could be. ;)

Like I said I was reading discussion badly. I apologize for coming across so aggressive.
It's still a weird topic to discuss. Any human could have a hard period. It's just the Difference of a cardboard box or a terrace house as your options

Think we're talking about two different things guys - everyone can struggle/suffer/have hardship. I think is the '£100k can struggle' point

But I think the fundamental distinction here is about options - ie if I'm earning £100k and struggling to make ends meet, I have the option of moving to cheaper locations, downsizing, etc. Plus the fact I'm earning that means my skills must be in higher demand, which increases options.

If I'm earning £25k and I'm struggling.... well suddenly almost areas of the UK are out of reach, my options are much narrower....

I think the issue is the use of the word "Struggle"

I don't think it's the appropriate word for someone who's overspending at that wage and their outgoings are greater than their income. At 100K you can easily make changes to your lifestyle to accommodate your wage and bring spending down. Downsize your 5-bedroom house, buy cheaper food, and get rid of the car. Etc and still will be able to live decent lifestyles that most here would relish and strive for.

Someone on minimum wage most likely can't do any of those things as they're probably living in a tiny flat, have no car, and already using Aldi or foodbanks. There's nowhere else to cut your spending and you have to choose between eating and heating. That's real struggling that someone on 100K will not experience.

Someone who's seriously having issues at 100k are just really bad with money

BBC reporting today truss is not ruling out benefits cuts. While at same time making unfunded tax cuts

Can't wait to see the next set of opinion polls and her next cringe interview
