2026 Re-build

A lot of people don't ever upgrade their CPU (rarer with AM4, admittedly, since it had great longevity), so if you were going to keep the 5700X3D and 7900 XT (or equivalent, personally I'd only buy the 90 series now) for a significant length of time (2-3+ years) you're potentially just dumping money into AM5 for future gains you may never realise and then be cursing not hanging on for AM6.

It is true that a 5700X3D/5800X3D aren't ideal for much faster cards than the 7900 XT, but you'd possibly need a new CPU by then anyway, even if you were on AM5.
From what im seeing online i might be cooked on the 5700x3d front. It appears that nowhere has stock of it anymore, so im not sure I'll be able to pick one up.

Whats would you recommend if the stock never replenishes as I belive its no longer manufactured?

Just get the 5700X3D or 5700X/5800X if you can't get the X3D and a 9070 XT.

You have a solid base for a PC that will still last for quiet a while.

Maybe get another NVME drive for games.

As its highly unlikely im going to be bale to find a 5700X3D is the next best option the 5800X?

OC had the 9070XT which i can order and 5800X, but I cant find a x3d anywhere in stock

I should have added to get the CPU second hand, the X3D you have no choice unless you shop in China and Think the 5800X is overpriced now. (unless SH price is near new price)

EDIT

You can get a 5700X for cheaper than the 5800X and you don't lose very much performance.

You won't find this new at present as production has ceased on them (5700x3d and 5800x3d)

If you don't mind getting them used then the usual places sell them
How safe is it getting a CPU second hand?

I had a little look at what's available and this doesn't seem to bad as long as its not just putting a temp solution in place that will need to change about in 12-18months.

personally i've not had issues with buying used CPUs and will always buy used items as a first port of call (most of my main and secondary PCs are assembled using used components/bought from china - also no warranty lol)
but as it's the used market, your mileage will vary

this can be carried on into the new build in the future so i wouldn't see this as a stopgap
and wow this was £560 just 6 weeks ago :/

@Cr1tch this chap's just done a similar upgrade too, but to a 9070 (non-xt)

As a few others have said, just upgrade the CPU and GPU, rest of your set up is pretty solid and well still be doing well when AM6 is released.

I would probably look for something like the 5600x, 5700x or 5800x if the price is not extortionate or if there is a great deal on an X3D variant take that.

GPU like others have said would be the 9070xt, and sooner rather than later as prices may well rise.

With that I would most likely ignore AM5 until memory pricing hits prices that can be considered normal and not deranged.

Following all the help and support you guys have kindly offered I have gone ahead and setup the following basket.

Before I commit and order I have a couple of additional questions based on my research.

1. Is there much difference in 9070XT Models? (Which is recommended)
2. Are there any available better alternatives from the 5800X with the 57800X3D being unavailable (new)?
- From what I have read the 5800X is good but not great and is an older CPU which can cause bottle necks with the 9070XT not sure if this is correct.

Once again thanks for everyone's input.

yes there's a difference, no there's not much in it to matter in the grand scheme of things.
the correct answer for most/the average user is normally the base spec version of the card
so, just get the cheapest

no there isn't without doing a full platform swap out

it depends on the game, but yes it is possible
the X3D is a better choice, but if you are averse to getting a used sample then you don't really have much of a choice

It's a shame you missed out on the sale price as it is a very good GPU, but if buying today i would get the cheapest. Be aware though the Gigabyte and Asus need 3 x power cables.
