£20k Escort..

My mate has a MINT series 1 and he would want 6k for it, there is no way that is worth 20k. he took me out in his series one at the weekend - blast from the past!

The RS turbo wasn't a particularly good car even when new, it's surely only of interest to proper dedicated ford fans, in which case, it's worth it's weight platinum, because those mugs would pay through the nose for **** on a stick if it came with a ford badge on it.

For 20k though you could have a skyline or a supra or 5 MR2 Turbos. All far better thwn an escort.

Irrelevant, no one is going to buy it because it's the best car for the money.

For £20K you can get an awful lot of car.

If it really is mint, he'd be mugging himself off.

I disagree with that I'm afraid, it was everything the XR3i wasn't i.e. Quick, well handling and a very successful racer in it's class.

First front wheel drive car with a limited slip diff not to mention it practically started the chip tuning industry by itself!

Ruined and killed off ultimately by being so easy to steal and practically uninsurable by it's end but still IMO it was a very good car for it's day.

I had two, an S1 and S2 both of which got stolen! :(

I very much liked them and actually preferred the S2 to drive but the S1 looked better and got far more (maybe too much!) attention.

That said, I wouldn't want one today even with deep pockets, the game has moved on big time and the last one I drove was a great way to ruin old memories!! (I've found this with a lot of cars I loved when younger and subsequently driven years later!)

In it's day it was a blast, today I can think of many more equally classic cars I'd like for £20k over an S1 Turbo.

I'm sure that £20k example will find a willing buyer, probably not at asking but not far off I'm sure. As said, it won't be bought by somebody thinking what else £20k would bag him, it'll be bought by an enthusiastic collector.

So? People don't generally buy classic cars because they are "better" than any other model. It's an emotional decision.

If I had suggested a Fiat cinquicento I would agree. But skylines supra etc all classics and massively better in every way.

I think you mean rose tinted spectacles and throbs of uk childhood memories. ..as I've saud before our localised car choice was so bad average csrs5 gained a status they wouldn't otherwise have had.
