I play fallout, skyrim, heroes and generals, project cars, grid, and metro.
Would it be better to get one of the cheaper ones and pair it with 1 RX480, and then get a 34"1440 when vega is out? Is 34" too big for 2560x1440? Are there other monitors i should be looking towards for freesync?
Currently on a 24" 1080p monitor, and sit about 2 feet away

Thinking of getting the acer predator x34a. whats the viewing pleasure like from about 2 meters away and do you have to be in the absolute center to appreciate the view? (planning to use watch movies from my bed which is beside the table where the monitor will be)
Anybody have experience downscaling a 3440x1440 ultrawide down to 2560x1080 ish?
I understand that to get a properly scaled picture you need to force a custom desktop resolution due to the fact that 3440x1440 has a very slight difference in aspect ratio to 2560x1080.
Really eyeing up one of these bad boys but I want to hold out with my 290x a bit longer and I know I won't get acceptable fps on a lot of newer games without downscaling.
Saw this on sunday so I went and ordered an Asus ROG Swift PG348Q 34" ultra-wide as i did not want to wait till mid 2017...
But i won't be happy if IPS 144hz 34" ultra-wide G-sync monitors do end up getting released this year
Well Nvidia seem to recommend a resolution of 2048x1080 when downscaling.
I had a mess about with it on a couple of games with a 290 and 2560x1080 worked and looked pretty good, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised how well a 290x copes with 3440x1440, just drop the aa down lowish and games still look and play good
Looking at that chart makes me remember of when I first got into PC gaming where the resolution I was playing at was 640x480 with a voodoo 1 and next was 800x600 with voodoo2....

3440x1440 is a tough resolution to run. My poor 980GTX is straining to run even AC:BF today and I threw a healthy OC on it as well. Had to turn down a few sliders too. Not even attempting Witcher 3 again until I've upgraded. Can always turn the resolution down but where's the fun in that.
Interesting.... My first chance to game on the GTX 980 (after buying it a month or so back) and I'm fairly happy with the results.
BF4 ultra @1440p : 45-50 fps at that resolution everything at stock.
What do you guys get ?

Keep it on topic : Single GTX 980, everything at stock, average FPS
