233s many mile Mondeo

nope actual pull handle itself sounds like one of the bolts on the inside is loose, will have to pop the boot trim off and have a look at some point

What are the headlights like on your Mondeo?

I had a rental Mondeo while I was in the UK a few weeks ago and thought the headlights were terrible but I guess that's just halogens for you.

The rest of the car was pretty good though - it was a 1.5 TDCi which I assumed would be totally gutless but it was perfectly useable (and felt like it had more power than quoted) plus it averaged over 53mpg.

Sync 3 was good and CarPlay worked well.

It made me think I'd happily have a Ford Fusion as a cheap commuter car.

02-01 55197 miles 2x Bridgestone potenzas on the font.
14-02 62038 Full service and 2x front tyres (Rainsports)

binned the potenzas off after 8k utterly horrid tyre, very very unsettling especially when pushing on on anything other than perfectly dry roads.
we also have our first fault showing at 63k miles, bit of vibration at mid revs(2-3k) in third gear and above, bit of time on the ramp shows the car needing 2 new driveshafts :(. thankfully into the local Ford dealer today and checked, by them same conclusion reached. 2 new driveshafts ordered to be fitted some time next week hopefully.

Thank god it was under warranty as I took the liberty of pricing a pair up, £781 + vat on trade.

had a few long runs recently Perth - Norfolk etc but overall MPG since new is still woeful new to 63k she's averaged 42.32 mpg (actual figures) trip shows 46mpg although and chewed through 6879l of fuel since I got her back at the end of April last year. since then she's averaged 208
miles/day.

on and yes the headlights whilst not bad, are not great (really wish i'd specced the LED headlights now. nothing that cant be sorted though :)

the lack of MPG is more down to driving style and use than anything else, although i'm sure with a bit of err recalibration of the ECU and a slightly lighter right foot it could easily see a genuine 50mpg.

vehicle change is a strange one, basically just whenever I get the urge. previous Mondeo went to well north of 300k although I don't see this one being with me much more than 2 years just haven't clicked with it ;(

ideal replacement at the moment is a BiTDI estate Passat 4motion :D:D:D:D although that could easily change

I've read about a lot of mk 4/4.5 owners upgrading to the mk 5 and saying they prefer thier old car. It's at odds with what the motoring press say. I think it shows how good the mk4 / 4.5 really were (or even still are).

The mk4.5 is a cracking car, everthing about it is well thought out properly engineered and seems built to last

If I could find a decent 2.2 titx on say a 14 plate that wasn't silly money I'd add it to the fleet for work duties

Driveshafts seem a common issue for some reason some going under 20k. Im averaging 54mpg since i got the car with the latest tank full doing me 56.6mpg.

What do you do trailer it everywhere :)

Nothing special tend to aim for around 60mph on the motorway during commuting, not that i could go much faster along the M62/M60. Gets the odd day where im stuck in traffic for ages going no faster than 30 for 25 miles.

Edit: Nearly forgot i do use Archoil AR6900-D Max, which has slowly increased it from the 50mpg i was getting a couple of months ago, so thats more than paid for its self. Never used additives before but i cant deny the figures im seeing.

And its broken.

heading out to Edinburgh this morning, cut out restarted fine no EML then cut out again within a minute, done this a couple of times so pulled over and phoned the AA.

oil levels far too high and its showing fault codes for EGR and fuel pump pressure. currently abandoned up at Ford awaiting inspection

could be any of a number of things, dpf issues although personally for me it points to an injector going awry

When I went to pick up my Westfield chassis, the hire van did exactly the same thing - they diagnosed it as a failing fuel pump.

quick update, still broken. dealer finally got it up on the ramp today and did the square route of nothing :( only bonus being if they keep dragging their heels it might still be on a ramp when my driveshafts come into stock :)
