24 hours of Le Mans 2014

Porsche can still be very proud of what they've achieved in their first year back, even if both cars end up retiring.

Toyota on the other hand will be kicking themselves as they had the pace to win this. They should also have come with three cars rather than two.

Yeah Porsche will wake up tomorrow happy. Toyota will feel like poo.

I think Toyota will win the WEC this year, but without winning the 1 race that really matters.

What a eventful race, truly gutted for Porsche not being able to finish but it was a epically impressive effort from the team. Roll on 2015 they will come back stronger. However, I feel for Toyota with a single problem ends the lead cars dominance.

Time for a afternoon nap, as I've pretty much watched all of it.

You know, I have to say that I am really beginning to wonder about Mark Webber.. For years he truly had the worst luck in Formula 1, which many of us put down to evil-doings by his team-mate.. But now he appears to have had the same bad luck at Le Mans, is he truly cursed?

Ended up watching Eurosport Player through the TV app, they had a channel that was broadcasting without adverts and then had Radio Le Mans playing through my laptop.

It was a little out of sync and slightly behind just plain EurosportHD on Sky, but it worked ok and was still in HD.

How lucky are the Audi guys?

It was looking at points like Toyota, Toyota, Porsche on the podium. Would have loved that.

I don't think they were all that lucky really.

The crash which affected both the No.3 Audi and No.8 Toyota took the former out completely whilst the latter was "merely" delayed so if anyone was lucky there it was Toyota.

Both the remaining Audis suffered problems including fairly lengthy stops to replace their turbos.

The Porsches did superbly well for their first year back but never really had the speed to challenge the Audis and the No.20 car would have been caught and passed for the lead even if it hadn't experienced problems and had to retire.

The only real "luck" Audi had was the retirement of the No.7 Toyota but then reliability is all part of the game and you could argue that Toyota simply didn't engineer their car well enough. After that point Audi would have won the race even if the No.20 Porsche hadn't retired although the second placed car would likely have been third instead.

One thing Audi have proven during their success at Le Mans is that outright speed is nothing without reliability. This isn't the first time they've been up against faster opposition but come out on top because their rivals have faltered. I think it's unfair to say their result this year was "lucky".

Porsche did finish. They got 1car back out to complete the final lap and be classified.

Yeah the No.14, was glad they did that as it would have been an incredible shame for both cars to have retired.

Amazing performance for their first year and next year should be very good.

Firstly well done Audi, and incredible job Porsche. Real shame for Toyota.

Just want to pick up on this. Without the slow puncture that saw Bernhardt in 3 laps early, and then webber going straight out with the ultimately terminal problem it was not a clear cut Audi win. The number 14 Porsche at the time was lapping at the same speed as both audi's so if you take that as a bench mark for the number 20 Porsche and with Porsche having to make 1 less stop in that last couple of hours of the race then Audi it was actually looking like a real scrap for the win for Porsche. Roll on next year, I do believe Nissan will be in the LMP1 mix as well then!

Indeed. Although I hope they don't try and bring too much from the ZEOD into their P1 car.

With it being called a GTR it must have a 6 cylinder turbo engine, surely?
