24 hours of Le Mans 2014

Sounds very interesting, but have to wonder how involved it would be.
Be amazing if they did distributed computing for simulation. And anyone could make a suggestion and it would model that outcome.
A truly open source project would be amazing. As I think it would shake things up a lot. But it sounds more like, everything on display and public help would be limited.

Open source doesn't mean community created, it just means that all the information is freely available. Given how closed off motorsport has become this is a great way to open up the sport and get a range of people interested.

Is it going for the garage 56 entry? Or will it be built to compete as a classifieds car in one if the normal slots?

SRT Vipers have pulled out: http://sportscar365.com/lemans/lemans24/srt-vipers-set-for-withdrawl-from-le-mans/

Not sorry to see them go as they're homologated and don't really fit in the regs, but it's sort of sad to see them replaced by two more Ferraris. GTE is already quite heavily subscribed with Ferraris imo and it would have been nice to see some more variation. I guess it's no different to the Porsche's of Le Mans past though.

I'm loving the look of the new R18 E-tron livery!

Well even though I'll be watching at home (thanks to reproduction) I cannot wait for this, even if it is a few months away.

One year I'll get to go, hopefully with my boy when he's older.

Lmp1 cars always looking amazing. Its the cars I always associate with how a sports car should look.
J

I'm glad they moved back to closed cars. The open cars always looked a bit odd.

Not a fan of the massive advertising fin though. Sorry, stability fin :p.

Even with open cockpit they still had a similar body look. But yes closed cockpit is better.

They also follow on from the group c prototypes, what ever series that was in the 80s they were also very nice to look at, saw a Porsche 956 at one of the motorshows as a kid.

Those headlights are a bit, upright? I'm sure there's no aerodynamic issues at all but it does make it look a bit ungainly imo.

The Audi is the best looking of them imo.

Front end of the Toyota is really odd. Like benhaha just said - the headlights look very upright :/
Audis are definitely looking the nicest in LMP1 at the moment, although I think I'll be cheering on Porsche and Toyota as I'd like to see someone break Audi's streak!

Some details on the SRT\Viper decision: http://www.racer.com/latest-stories/item/102214-chrysler-left-le-mans-to-focus-on-usc

SRT's decision to pull out of the Le Mans 24 Hours was motivated by a desire to focus on its attempt to win the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in 2014, says Bill Riley.

..

"Le Mans takes a lot of effort and resources, so we just decided that we are going to focus on the U.S. series," he said. "Right now our aim is to try to win races in North America and then go on to try to win the championship."

..

"On the BoP side, we were very encouraged by our discussions with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest and the FIA," he explained.

There is some talk by the FIA and ACO of moving the WEC calender to Summer/Autumn and moving Le Mans to be the season finale. I think that makes sense and offers a good build up to the race.
