Well, I've just got my new Dell 2407WFP and have noticed a black bar down the right hand side. I have the resolution set to 1920x1200 in ATi Catalyst and in everything else I do.

I've tried using the monitor control panel thing to move the screen image or whatever to the right but the image just seems to move behind it.

I'm using a VGA cable with a DVI cable attached to the graphics card end; do I need to buy a proper DVI-D cable and have that in both the monitor and the graphics card?

I didn't notice it for a bit, but now it's slightly bothering me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

EDIT: I've just noticed that there's one at the top of the screen too. And a smaller one at the bottonm. The left side is fine though.

Since you're using VGA you'll need to use the auto adjust function, then the monitor should line up the image with the edges correctly. The setting is in the OSD somewhere I believe.

Didn't the screen come with a DVI lead then? Pretty sure they are supposed to.

Yeah, there was one in there, just plugged it in, (there's no difference in visual quality as far as I can see) and that black bar is there. I've tried auto-adjusting, but that does nothing - even when there's no cable plugged in and it comes up with the "no xxxxx cable" screen that black bar is still there - as if that's not even part of the monitor screen :/

Can't get any pics - but I've tried drawing it in paint - the red lines are where the black bars are.

I think this is just down to the screen not being properly aligned behind the bezel and so the part of the panel that doesn't show any pixels is showing a bit too much on one side. So long as the image on the left of the screen isn't cut off by the bezel then i wouldn't worry about it. All of my past screens have been like this, although they were more centered, and so i think it's normal and just the fact that the bezel doesn't cover the panel enough.

this is an expensive monitor, I wouldn't accept that! Every screen i've had has had perfect alignment, I'd be very disappointed with that after spending £500 on it.

Yeah, I am a bit - but in a rather sadistic way, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has it

Problem is, I would send it back, and get it replaced, but I had hassle with them trying to deliver it (had to go to the depot, I'm at Uni halls of residence) and I know it'd be impossible for them to pick it up for the next 6 weeks.

I guess I'll just have to get used to it, it's not a drastic problem, oh well.

Thanks all for your replies.

You could get it replaced, and end up with one exactly the same... or even with a dead pixel as well...

These monitors are meant to have a black boarder round the screen image anyway (of 1-2mm), i guess with these ones its just a bit uneven.

I am also unsure what to do... could get it replaced, but what do i say to them on the phone??? Probably sound like i'm sending it back with no real fault as the screen essentially works fine...

Personally I would do some checks to see that every pixel is definitely visible. Not quite sure how to do that, maybe use photoshop to make a 1920*1200 wallpaper that's all black apart from a single white pixel line round the outside or something like that.

The LCD panel on my 2007WFP is nicely centered.

Good idea there mate, i just did that and i can confirm that EVERY pixel on all the edges are visible. The white line is completely visible the whole way round the screen.
