£25-30k

Buy the cossie and the £10k saving will easily get you over 500 brake, and a premium AA membership. :D Whilst it is running it will embarass both the porsche and the aston.

On a more serious note congratualtions on being in this position, it is one i hope to find myself in one day.

How about this:

Very different, and certainly has the wow factor you are after. (and if you bend it, there is a guy sticking the engine in a kit car chassis on another forum, so you could follow his lead.... )

You've got to admit that black Europa S looks drop dead gorgeous in that pic though... admit it......!
[Al Murray mode]Not bad, not a 911 though is it? HEY?[/Al Murray mode]

When I saw one in the flesh and had a nose around I thought it looked a bit awkward.

No idea what I'd buy with that budget. From your list though it would be 911 if I had my semi sensible head on, the Aston purely from the heart.

prob more than 10k to get a reputable 500 brake from that one as it's a small turbo model.

from the OP's list i'd go 911 every time. they're just a league above the rest.

failing that how about, on autotrader at the moment, an 2001 Mercedes AMG CL600 6.0?

But the problem with cars like this as anything other than collectors peices if that when you don't have your foot to the floor - ie, 75% of driving - it's an old Ford Escort.

And £20,000 is a hell of a lot of money for an old Ford Escort.

Anyone remember Knight Rider when Micheal hit the "super pursuit mode button"? All these little aerofoils and spoilers came out that made the car go quicker - for some reason thats the first thing that came into my head when i saw the pics of this car :D

Dam it looks good tho :D

oh man, what a price range!
so much to chose from in many different ranges.

i think i would have to play safe and go for a boxster s tbh. lovely car that is still holding value, cheap to run (relatively) and much fun :]

The trap here is getting a car you can afford to buy, but not run.

Old rarris, astons etc would be way out IMO if anything went wrong (no offence - unless you have a lot more money stashed away).

Personally, id be looking at 2-3 year old TVRs (Tuscan F T W), Lotuses, Nobles etc, yes, you have the running costs, but you get a much newer car, so its less likely to collapse than a 10 year old aston martin.

Do you want a sunny afternoon cruiser (Z4, SLK, TT etc) or something lethal  but ultimately more satisfying ?

With the all out sports cars, i feel you have to really want one to put up with the obvious shortcomings and expense, whereas you could run a TT and it probably would cost much more than the equivalent A4.

If you go for something older, it may cost a lot more to run than you think, but if you enjoy it, im sure youll put up with that.

For some reason, ive always had a fancying for a RHD Lanci Delta Integrale Evo2  While only a 15k car, ultimately its going to be 15 year old, cost a bomb to run, and be as reliable as a WW1 tank :(

Nice thread!

I sometimes find myself 'shopping' for cars with this kind of budget just to see what I 'could' get, then reality slaps me in the face! Ha, one day - maybe

For me it would have to be the Jag XK8, its just a bit more understated than the 911 or the Z4. But if your after something a bit louder then yeah the 911.

But as already mentioned I doubt you would be dissapointed with any of these !
