2560x1440 or 120hz monitor???

Its like night and day for me - I've tested it a fair amount - I have both monitors hooked up to the same PC and I can play 10 games of COD in a row on the 60Hz and at best get half the KDR I will get on average playing 10 games on the 120Hz.

I don't actually notice it being _that_ much smoother in operation tho it is a little, but the difference in response and reduced residual image issues make a big difference to how well I do in games.

Next monitor I get will be a 120hz. Can't wait for even more cries of 'Hacker!'; always cracks me up why they moan that I use the awp on a server that...erm allows the awp. :D

Nice one,mine is coming Friday:D

Enjoy, it's a great panel!

Noticed a nice little feature too... the main button for entering the menu for input selection, config etc... it lights up when your finger gets about 2cm away from it, making it really easy to find - but not obtrusive when you don't need it.

Silly little thing, but well thought out!

The anti-glare coating could be better, that's my only gripe - it's not bad though.

Colours, contrast etc... all exceptional.

Surely you need some serious power to hit 120fps in BF3 at 1080p or 60fps at 1440p...

120hz isn't really worth it if you can't hit vsync at 120fps. It is consistency that is important for competitive FPS games. Older stuff like Quake I can definately see the point but in BF3 surely you need to drop the details way down to hit 120hz?

even at 60fps on a 120hz monitor its still miles smoother and more fluid...

Really impressed with how my OCed GTX580 is holding up at this resolution in BF3!

As long as I don't turn on MSAA.

With everything on ultra, motion blur off (because I hate it, haven't checked performance), MSAA off - but FXAA on high... I'm getting 50-65FPS most of the time, with dips in to the high 30s with lots of smoke/explosions.

Even 2x MSAA drops it in to the low 40s average & 4xAA drop it way down to slideshow :(

Would get SLI, but this mobo doesn't support it :( Will just have to wait for Kepler for the fluid experience I'm used to - but then will be upgrading mobo + cpu at the same time...

Still... not bad...

Vsync introduces some input lag.

Why would anyone use it with a 120 Hz monitor?

Once you go over 60 fps on average, benefits of having doubled refresh rate would be noticeable.

Remember, with 60 average your fps will vary anywhere from 30-120 in many titles so anything above the 60 will feel smoother on a 120 Hz with even lesser input lag.

I place bf3 on 7970 at low settings and get constant or near enough 200 fps! With 120hz monitor its super dooper smooth!

Only reason I use low settings is I can see a lot more :)

That's overkill then. Surely you can increase some settings and still achieve the desired 120fps? Or are you wanting to ensure it never falls below 120fps? I know it's a bit of a faff changing and testing individual settings on that game though. How does medium perform?

With lower settings, he can see the enemies sooner / easier...

... I had a feeling people were doing this...

It's frustrating, those with worse hardware or who choose to run on crap quality settings have the advantage in the game :S

This is a timeless thing. Every really competitive player will play a game on All Low.

I know, it's incredibly frustrating for those of us who want to be a bit competitive and still have the eye candy.

Also saying that, I'm usually in the top 25% of most games I play now... usually in the top 3 players lately - but that's likely only because I actually revive people instead of running over them, lol.

I don't think you'll meet a lot of people like that in most public servers. Clan/League players usually play on pickups and such.

I bought a Dell U2711 for many reasons including gaming. I think its great for gaming, the resolution is lovely and I still have no problem killing all the whining kids on MW2/3. Not only is the panel great but the stand is just pure quality. Its the only monitor I've had where the manufacture has actually spent for than £1.50 on the stand and non of my other screens were cheap.

Fully agree with this post - also have the same dell model and its a beaut.
Simply cannot fault it.

Several of the Dells have horrid input lag - 30ms average... nice displays in all other regards - some people game on them without a problem but I suspect they have never played on a low latency panel and haven't noticed the difference - once they'd done so I'm pretty sure only the most casual of gamers would want to go back to it.

Not checked medium, I just use low settings as I'm a ex Quake 3 player for 7 years and was so used to playing it with mainly one colour for wall textures! When i play competitive games I take all the eye candy off to give myself the edge! I play every other game maxed out and ill probably Max out bf3 when i reach Rank 100!

I still use AF x16 and msaa on high! Just textures clutter shadows all on low!
