27" 144hz/1440p suggestions

Yeah I don't know, I know VA tech keeps getting better, and they claim that it is 1ms GtG (apparently the 'true' measure) so ... I've got one on preorder anyway, reckon it's worth a punt.

I've pre-ordered one also. Be as well give it a try. Although looking at the release date, It gets released just after I go offshore so it will be sitting for weeks unopened/unused.

Some flaws

VA smear (really called Black Crush).

IPS Glow.

Today's panels have really poor Q/A so you are playing panel lottery to get a good one.

Yes, I've read about these issues and my concern is playing the lottery and trying to get an acceptable one.

Don't want to hijack too much but I'm also after a new 27" main monitor to go with new build - 3900x, 5700XT.

Given my old monitor is 8 years old I'm assuming anything will be an upgrade? Old monitor was - Samsung S27A750D 27" 120Hz

For photoshop/Vegas and general gaming I assume IPS would be best?

Anything decent in the 200-350 range? I'd like 1440p and good refresh if possible, feel like sticking to 1080 isn't worth it as similar to old screen and 970GPU

Or is waiting for this 480 LG everyone is talking about the only option?

You won't get an IPS, 1440p, 27" high refresh rate monitor for that sort of budget, not new anyway. For a mix of Photoshop and gaming, yes you'd be best off with an IPS, so I'd stretch your budget to more like £450-500 if you can. There's the LG27BL850 that people on here are quite keen on, but it seems impossible to get hold of and the 1ms response time is basically a bit of a marketing gimmick, because you have to set the monitor to 'faster' or 'fastest' response time to achieve that, which introduces noticeable overdrive/halo-ing around things in games.

That's not to say it's by any means a bad monitor, but as an alternative you can get the Gigabyte Aorus FI27Q, which can be overclocked to 165Hz and is also IPS and costs almost exactly the same as the LG, plus it's actually in stock on OCUK.

The LG 27GL83A disagrees with you, retails at £320.

Would I even see a better picture on a normal 1080p monitor if it was a new one instead of 8 years old? Or am I not going to see much difference

This is the one I keep seeing quoted but I can't find it anywhere in stock and certainly not for £320!

*edit* - maybe not. The one I keep seeing talked about is the 850-B. Not sure what main differences are

Ah didn't realise that was IPS, my bad. Is it available anywhere though? A quick google search looks like it's barely sold anywhere and even then it's sold out.

Supply problems although it is in stock on non-uk sites. It does exist though and there are people who actually have them.

Looks like there is a site that has both LG versions being talked about.

Is there massive difference between the 2? It's a 120 euro saving to go for the older one.

They are the same panel, the difference is the back light and a couple of USB ports. There isn't an older one. Personally I'll be getting the 83A when it comes in stock.

They all look good (the new ones coming out as far as LCD go not sure on the QA though) but I need a G-Sync (hardware module) as I have Titan Xp so not going to get a G-Sync Compatible monitor as no support under 2000 series AFAIK.

You should be ok, both Pascal AND Turing support the Gsync compatible monitors.
