2700X, 3600 or i5-4670K for gaming?

3600 for now and then replace it with a 4700 or 4900X later this year or when you want to.
Zen+ 8 core vs Zen2 6 core.

Built the missus her very first build earlier this week. Runs very nicely. Opted for - 3600, B450 MAX, Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 4x8Gb (32Gb), RX 590.
Going to be picking up another 3600 for my new build as the prices atm are very good.

Have to agree with this. Very good build for the money and plenty of upgrade potential. Will cope with most workloads for years to come. Much better value than my build
id say a 2700 instead if upgrading to a newer chip soon. the non x variant is only 120 pound at moment sell borderlands close to a a ton for a 2700. for next to no difference performance wise lost over a 3600 and 8 cores.when selling also will hold its value.lose less than a 3600.
Check if your motherboard is getting power, if your motherboard has a power LED. Also, try reseating the RAM / use 1 stick only, I did this not long ago and my PC sprang back to life, the connections must've become oxidized?
I would try changing the powersupply first on your current PC. Seasonic power supplies are good and some come with 10 year warranties.
Or, if you don't wanna spend any money, connect the power supply to another PC and see if it still works.
If the PSU is fine, see if you can get hold of a motherboard with the same CPU socket as your current motherboard, then rebuild your PC.
It would be a much cheaper option than replacing your RAM, CPU and motherboard (assuming you buy a new DDR4 system).
If you somehow know it's your CPU that's broken (unlikely, cause CPUs have low failure rates), maybe just replace that?
Best time for a CPU upgrade would be when Ryzen 4000 CPUs are released in July 2020, or wait until 2021 when Intel may or may not release 10nm desktop CPUs.
I think it's very likely Ryzen 4000 CPUs will overtake Intel due to their process 7nm+ process advantage, at least until Intel can produce 10nm/7nm desktop CPUs.

Consider this folks. The end of this year will see the new consoles released and the 6 core processors will be 2 cores short and a few threads.
We all know that console game development dictates PC and you would want more power than a console due to running Windows and background tasks.
I have 8700k, 2600 and 2600x. I will most likely upgrade those to Ryzen 8 core chips as the value for money is great.

Im going to take a punt and say that you wont need 8c/16t for at least 2-3 years after the next gen consoles have released. 6/12 will be fine for years. Most games will still be cross-gen with PS4/Xbox One until 2023ish, the first wave of games will just be souped up PS4 games until they start specifically programming for the next gen consoles and ditch last gen ones.
Also, the console chips will probably be running at >3ghz due to power and heat limitations and the Xbox reserves a core for background tasks/recording etc too. PS4 uses a separate chip for that but we dont know if they will with the PS5.
