2900XT or 640GTS?

Your forgetting though, it only beats the GTS and comes close to the GTX, and beats it in some with no AA, if you want to buy a card that you can't use AA on then get the 2900, but when you buy a top end card like the GTS/GTX/2900 you expect to be able to use AA.

Thats true, but maybe the HD2900XT will be able to use AA eventually?

exactly what I was trying to say.

Even my good old 9800pro could use AA. :p

If they can fix it through the drivers though then ive every confidence in them doing it.

think its a hardware problem, should be sorted if they do a recall on all cards and replace the gpu on the cards with an updated one.

Hmm, maybe the 1gb versions have a modified core that solves it?

I wonder when benchmarks will be out on that, havent seen any yet.

There are supposed to be 512 and 1024 versions with GDDR3 and just a 1024 one with GDDR4.

There is onyl 512mb available for the GDDR3 versions as far as I am aware, GDDR4 is 1gb only, I suppose the GDDR3 will perform similar to the GDDR4 versions becase GDDR4 will have higher latencys.

yeah probably like when the x1950's came out with GDDR4, were only 1-2fps faster than the much cheaper x1900's. :D

Nobody seems to comment on the fact that GDDR4 has much lower power consumption, which I think would be a welcome addition for the 2900XT. :)

Even if it gets creamed by the much faster GTX thats the same price, i know which id buy.

Oh yeah, that pretty obvious though. :)

Was just saying that GDDR4 is just what 2900XT needs in terms of power consumption.

yea thats why i asked if it uses ddr3 or 4, cuz 4 would help it lower its power consumption and seeing as how the x1950xtx with ddr4 is around 15w less on power consumption compared to the x1900xtx with ddr3.

15w is not much at all but it does help some.
