2900xt owners\benchmarks thread

Performance wise it's decent, if not mindshattering - I only game at 1440x900!!!

Thats not the problem, the problem is I seem to get some rather strange horizontal interference of faded black bands rolling up and down my screen.

According to ATI this is caused by the HDD being accessed and only happens on VGA/Sub-D monitor connections.

Apart from that it's good, I just wish crossfire had more support with games. basically I wish ATI did Crossfire like Nvidia do SLi.

The main disappointment I had with it was when I still got below 25fps on the FEAR benchmark (granted, only 1% was below 25fps). That was with all option at max but no soft shadows.

I remember I got something similar to that back in the days of 3DFX Voodoo when you had to connect your 2d card to your 3d card :o . Was solved by placing clampers on either end of the cable to stop the magnetic interference. I'm wondering if there are any better magnetically shielded cables you can run between your cards?

full spec is

e6600, asus p5b deluxe, 2gb geil ultra low latency (pc6400), 2900xt, I'm running latest from ati website 8.37.4.3, haven't oc'ed the cpu either.

just tested hl2 lost coast, i read somewhere that there was a problem rendering chainlink fence at high angles (?), i'm not going to say I know the full details, but I did not get a problem rendering it at all. I do get fog in vanilla hl2 though :( , its strange you get it in hl2 but not lost coast

The rendering problem only occurs with the Adaptive AA enabled, enable that and then see if you get this Issue..

In BECCO's screenshots the problem was there all the time, even with no AA.

Hmm will do more testing, cheers. It's been submitted to Catalyst feedback with screenshots so should be sorted either way.

A new review from Korean ATiMANIA

AMD Catalyst 8.38 vs NVIDIA ForceWare 158.18

It's pretty obvious the 2900 will give the 320MB GTS a run for its money at that res, I'd imagine it'd be closer with the 640Mb version though.

I'd also be a bit wary of an objective review from a site called ATIMania. :P

I'm just amazed that the 320mb 8800gts spanks it in Infernal at such a high res

ATI’s Partner Discloses Specs of Radeon HD 2900 XTX.
Sapphire Plans to Sell Radeon HD 2900 XTX
by Anton Shilov
[ 05/20/2007 | 11:25 PM ]

Sapphire Technology, the world’s largest producer of ATI Radeon-based graphics cards, has quietly added an unannounced Radeon HD 2900 XTX graphics card into the list of boards it offers to its clients. Currently ATI, graphics product group of Advanced Micro Devices, only sells “XT” version of the board and emergence of the “XTX” was relatively unexpected.

According to Sapphire’s product matrix, Radeon HD 2900 XTX graphics board will feature 1GB of GDDR4 memory at 2050MHz clock-speed as well as the Radeon HD 2900 XT graphics processor at 740MHz with 320 stream processors. At present, the Radeon HD 2900 XT features 512MB of GDDR3 memory at 1650MHz.

AMD currently positions ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT graphics card as a rival for Nvidia’s GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB and the board’s recommended price is $399. The price of the Radeon HD 2900 XTX remains to be seen, however, 1024MB of GDDR4 memory cost noticeably more compared to 512MB of GDDR3.

Given that ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT already has 105.6GB/s peak memory bandwidth and still cannot beat Nvidia’s GeForce 8800 GTX/Ultra, it is uncertain whether the Radeon HD 2900 XTX will be able to compete against its rivals. Still, with the Radeon HD 2900 XTX its developer will be able to claim the world’s first consumer graphics card with 1GB of memory with the world’s highest peak memory bandwidth of 131.2GB.

AMD and Sapphire officials did not comment on the news-story.

Smoothvision HD AA, ticked use application
AAA ticked enable ,on quality mode
AF, ticked use application
Catalyst AI, on advanced, enabled
Mipmap on max quality
Misc D3D settings, ticked geom instancing and support DXT textures

can some one please confirm if these work?

There is no AA in that picture, also I take it you have selected 6xMSAA in the game options. Have a think for a second..6xMSAA is not supported on the 2900xt hence why its not working in game. Only 2,4,8x AA modes available on the 2900, hence why your chainlink on the photos is ok, enable 4xMSAA and i gurantee youll get the same issue.
