2900xt owners\benchmarks thread

I've just got me new Sapphire HD2900XT :D , just made a short vid but sounded grumpy coz its 9 in the morning, but it's in, gonna get the drivers, cant wait to test it, I can hear the fan even at idle lol, but oh well, it wont bother me :)

Ok, I'm abit confusesed, the fan just starting going now and its loud, but I havent even got any drivers in yet and it started just as I went onto ATi's site to get the drivers

The fan still operates when temps go up with or without drivers and im guessing its rather warm where you are and that's why the cards fan kicked in, around 70c and the fan will hit 38% speed from idle. Use ATI tool to adjust the speed to your own personal requirements.

Does ATi Tool work in Vista now?

It will be interesting to see what the catalyst 7.7's bring in the next month. I do indeed fly out to the states in August and after having a quick look around the web it would appear I should be able to pick up a 2900xt 512 for £190 or the 2900xt 1GB for £240 and that has kinda sparked a bit of interest for me.

So i shall be keeping an eye on this thread now to see some benchies to convince me to make the move after the 7.7's are released! Kinda always liked ATi's Driver support as to be honest the NVidia support sucks :(

I'll be doing some benchys in XP, not Vista, Vista drivers need some work.

I dont know if this is right for 16xAA/AF at 1280x1024 in Oblivion with Vista, but I got:

HD2900XT

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
2200, 66160, 23, 51, 33.253

8800GTS640:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
16408, 310388, 24, 112, 52.863

I am thinking about doing a fresh install later on.

A friend of mine just bought a HD2900XT (2nd hand) and he's a bit worried that the fan doesn't seem to spin-up in 3D games (he's playing DIRT with the latest drivers). I told him not to overclock it until I'd asked for advice on here.

Is this normal with the latest drivers?

I told him how to check load temps with ATitool, so he'll be doing that this evening.

If he is running it in a cool environment and the card isn't going above 70 thats perfectly normal.

Ah, thanks :).
I think he was expecting a lot more noise, so he'll be happy to know it's normal. All depends on his temps now.

From what i can gather, yes it does work in Vista though some people report problems whilst others say there are no problems at all, link is for the the latest ATI tool beta that supports the hd2900xt.

I scan for artifacts and I get tons of artifacts all over, as if I have fraps running, but I dont

I am in Windows XP too, I did not see any artifacts in game.

How big ?

There must be somewere hosting those , I need to have some faith restored :D

For example;

CSS Stress Test

7.7

8xMSAA Everything Maxed 1680x105 : 123 AVG FPS

Early 8.40

8xMSAA Everything Maxed 1680x1050 : AVG 150FPS

This was the biggest game performance boost I noticed.

Heres some benches for fear with the 7.7 drivers. All settings at max and 16XAF with rez set at 1680x1050 and no soft shadows, to me its just the same as previouse drivers except for even less performace with the new AA mode.

NO AA

2XAA

4XAA

EDGE-DETECT 12XAA

EDGE-DETECT 24XAA

Correct these drivers have a few extra fixes aside from the 7.6s and also debut the new AA mode which has taken a long time to implement. Look out for some perf boost next month. Saying that im entirely happy with the perf of the card atm :)

I'm not:

IL2 1920x1200 4x AA on ATi, 8x on Nvidia

X1950 Pro or 19XTX cant recall exactly:
2007-02-01 21:40:53 - il2fb
Frames: 6653 - Time: 120167ms - Avg: 55.365 - Min: 34 - Max: 105

8800 GTX:
2007-05-11 13:38:44 - il2fb
Frames: 8193 - Time: 120164ms - Avg: 68.182 - Min: 27 - Max: 113

HD2900:
2007-07-19 19:24:16 - il2fb
Frames: 6365 - Time: 119727ms - Avg: 53.163 - Min: 19 - Max: 117

I didn't expect GTX perf, but did expect better than X19 :(

Just 8800 has texture issues in that game so I can't win :o

Sell it up then, Im bored of hearing 2900 complaints :p , have you reported the bad performance to ATi? via Catalyst Feedback.
