** 290X ONLY £269.99: ONLY 100PC!! **

Also just fitted the 290x without the waterblock and im getting an idle temp of 78 degrees with fan speed at 33%

Anyone else got any problems card is at stock speeds all i've done is install AMD catalyst upto date driver for this card!
Starting in safe mode to remove drivers and remove card as i think im going to have to RMA this card

That is pretty normal, the AMD cards idle at high temperatures, my Asus DC2 OC idles around 55c with fans at 50%, on the upside it never goes much beyond 80c under-load but the DC2 cooler is a monster.

I was going to order three and order the fourth at a later date, just as well it seems.

Gibbo what's the score on warranty with these, can we change the thermal paste without voiding it?

That's some scary numbers 73 at idle though! it did change after i restarted the pc as normal back down to 42 degrees so i doubt the card is faulty i think it must be catalyst as it ran the card at 100% while it was doing nothing , after the restart it was running 0% at idle and back at 38-42 degree's good job i'm going to dip into watercooling as im positive it will make a huge difference.

For the time being i've swapped out the card till i can get an xspc backplate or OCuk gets them back in stock and i'll then try my hand at adding a waterblock to a gpu :)

660 idle 36
CPU 33

much better for my own piece of mind :D
Hopefully catalyst won't do that again at some point while im under water although if it does atleast i'll have way more headroom!

Yes although it has little effect on stock cooler.

Elpida is a bit slower, clock for clock. It also does not usually overclock quite as well. Not a huge difference though.

An idle of 78 degrees is not normal at all....

My reference 290X idled in the mid 40's despite being connected to 3 monitors.

I had the same problem as the poster above on day 1, 100% GPU usage after running heaven for a while, even after I shut it down. That gave me an idle temp of 65c (different card). It wouldn't go down without a reboot, so It was a driver bug or something.

Hasn't happened since, just one off.
