If you are going intel then better off getting a cheaper z370 motherboard and spending more on the newer coffelake 8700k cpu. M

I didnt choose the 8700K due to not wanting too use watercooling and to just use an air cooler or is running it over that 4GHz mark easily and reliably done on air cooling with an 8700k? and I want intel as I'm not overly well experienced with AMD
I didn't have a budget per component so no I wasn't looking to spend under £300 it was just a coincidence that it is
I decided on Hybrid Drives so could still keep lots of space while keeping faster boot times so took the compromise.
The remaining cash was to go towards a 27/28" monitor so can get high res 2560/1440

so for instance swap the motherboard and cpu and then leave the rest as it is so the changes would be to
CORE I7-8700K 3.7GHZ (COFFEE LAKE) SOCKET LGA1151 £409.99
Asus ROG Maximus X Hero £239.99

This then makes the total £2118.87 exc delivery

is it worth the extra £150 approx inc delivery?

AIO cooler should be fine on the 8700K as well. OCUK sell prebuilds at 4.9 with a similar setup. Of course they have the luxury of picking the better chips for overclocking. You only need the oem chip so £50 cheaper than the retail version you have listed. You can save more with a cheaper board like the ROG strix f.

swapping to a Asus ROG Strix F £197.99 and 8700k OEM (I thought I had that last time d'oh) £359.99 it totals £2026.87 exc delivery so £50approx more with delivery.
Is the cheaper board as easy to overclock as the more expensive? I dont want to go mad just something safe and reliable like 4.2/3
I suppose if I'm to spend that much I may as well spend £50 to get the better CPU, I just dont know if its worth compromising on the motherboard but I suppose by the time I'll need an upgrade it wont make any difference

just get the gigabyte aorus ultra in my spec for <£160. it's one of gigabyte's top end motherboards and you avoid paying the £100 asus tax
and you get gigabyte's warranty as well should anything go wrong, they have a uk-based rma, whereas there are some horror stories about asus rma.
i know which one i'd get if it was me buying the pc, and it certainly isnt an asus board (or asus anything for that matter)

(but tbh i prefer the fractal meshify lol)

nope. just not going to suggest to people to waste money. of course they do make some great products (like their strix line of gpu coolers and their MITX mobos) but asus carries a premium when their competitors offer products just as good for a much cheaper price.

as above reason. pointless waste of money for features that is not likely to be used. of course if you're intending to fully custom watercool or use dual lan ports or an opamp then fine, the gaming 7 may be a more sensible choice, but if not, then its just willy waving really.

so out of the option of Asus ROG strix and MSI Krait then the MSI would be the better option for me personally at £50 cheaper and as I dont want to use watercooling/dual lan ports etc and just want a good board thats easy and reliable to OC slightly to give a boost but on the other hand I dont want a pants one either when after 2 weeks wishing I'd spent the extra money

mostly depends on the cpu chip lottery really. most mobos will overclock within 1-2 multipliers of each other, unless you're looking at exotic cooling like ln2 etc

It's not a bad case , preferred it over the s340 bit was the HDD bays that annoyed me for some reason - completely forgot what it is . And is quite restrictive at the front , yet I like the p300 a lot more... Lol
Main reason could be using Jonsbo cases, all aluminium and half the bulkiness

Just poor RMA and customer service . Have to make sure you've got it from a damn good reseller like ocuk.
If RMA goes wrong and some nasty issues come up, can send in your mobo, CPU and ram for gigabyte to test directly , as they have done for a few .
Laptop service team though, very very nice
