2k gaming rig

honest critique, please don't take any offence.
MSI Z370 Krait Gaming Intel Z370 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard £149.99
Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz (Coffee Lake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - OEM £359.99
fine
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black (CMK32GX4M4C30 £389.99
pointless. the teamgroup night hawk with led is £150 cheaper for the same amount of ram
Palit Geforce GTX 1080Ti Jetstream 11264MB GDDR5X PCI-Express Graphics Card £679.99
gigabyte has a better cooler for just £10 more
Seagate FireCuda SSHD 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DX002) £66.95
Seagate FireCuda SSHD 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM + Free Assassins Creed (PC) (ST2000DX0 £83.99
again sshds are pointless. get a large ssd for your programs and then a hdd for storage. you'll see better responsiveness from your pc this way.
Cooler Master MasterAir Pro 4 CPU Cooler £41.99
entry-mid range cooler for an 8700k, not worth it imo, the cm liquidlite 240 is a few bob more expensive and will cool the 8700k better. if you want air cooling, then get a beast cooler for overclocking
NZXT Noctis 450 White Mid-Tower Chassis £119.99
old case for 2018, and not worth £120. but cases are subjective, so your choice
Cougar STX 750W 80 Plus 230V EU Power Supply - Black £55.99
i wouldn't want to run an 8700k + 1080ti on a low quality psu
Asus PB287Q 28" 3840x2160 TN 4K 60Hz 1MS Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £389.99
old tech, with prices that hasn't dropped from 2014. tech has moved on since then

we could sit forever picking fault with a list hahaha
the monitor I want for the res and 4k
the SSHD I chose as I didnt want all my data on one drive so the compromise of keeping high space on both drives with decent boot times was to go for a hybrid as SSD are way more expensive for the space
the psu is a 750w psu I'm confused or go for a 750W evga/corsair?
I like the case
I DONT WANT WATERCOOLING haha which air cooler would you recommend instead of the master air pro 4?
I have faith in Corsair Vengeance, personal experiences when used other RAMS but I shall give the Teamgroup nighthawk a look at but arent they dual channel where as I had chosen 4x8 quad channel so in your opinion it wont make that much of a difference (I was just thinking of future swapping 2 of them out for 16Gb and then have 48Gb RAM)
I'v read tales of the Gigabyte model getting noise issues but we can say these things about anything that gets made so settled on the jetstream. If was to spend more than the base money I may as well spend more than £10 and get a mid range model.
Its finding that fine line when to stop spending that extra bit and to settle

The cooling of the CPU being air cooled is why I had the 7700k in my original list instead of the 8700k. I'v had bad experiences with watercooling haha sticking with air cooling now haha

I7 8700 non K , still better then 7700k and boosts to 4.3gjz on all cores :D
But finding one for £300 or under is tough work

your money, your choice, we can only give advice, but you're the one living with the computer you specced ;)
the monitor I want for the res and 4k
might as well get an ips 4k+gsync for a bit more
the psu is a 750w psu I'm confused or go for a 750W evga/corsair?
dont need a 750w psu. a 550w like the seasonic focus plus gold is more than sufficient
I like the case
k

Bequiet dark pro 3, noctua and cryorig ! Look for the big beefy boys ! Haha
this - but make sure they'll fit the case you want

8700k only supports dual channel anyway. so pointless getting 4x8gb. 2x16gb also puts less stress on the cpu memory controller so you can overclock the ram more easily. also by having 2x16gb, its easier to add another 2x16gb, giving 64gb ram (not that you'll use that much anyway). simplicity.

get the asus rog strix for £750

put a number and don't cross it ;)

hahahaha ok
swap the cougar PSU for EVGA Supernova GS 650W 80+ gold
the cooler for a bequiet dark pro 3
the gigabyte for the palit
and possibly slip in a 250Gb SSD as a boot drive as well as the 2 other HDD.

oh yeah, missed this line :D

i promise you, with your budget, get a 500gb ssd and stick your programs on it, you'll see a marked difference in system responsiveness. sshds aren't worth it

just because I have the budget doesnt mean I want to spend all of it haha.
I dont really want to be running all my programs and files off my boot drive so I will look at getting a SSD as a boot drive and then having 2 other HDD whether that be standard HDD or hybrid SSHD to run programs and store files but I dont want to spend more than I have to just because the budget covers it, if I can save some on a few compromises then the better the bank feels

we're speccing for best bang-for-buck, and also save some money at the same time.

i can 100% tell you that that's the wrong choice. whatever advice to help with budget/performance isn't being taken on board anyway, so i'll leave it up to you. good luck.

it is I'm just explaining my reasoning for what I have chose. the advice has been greatly appreciated and taken on board which is why the list has changed so much since the OP. All I'm saying is if I can spend £x amount less than the budget then great saved some money by not spending all of it. I didnt say I wouldnt look into the advice of getting a 500Gb SSD and then a small HDD and later on have to invest in another HDD for more space.

So new list being

now that is a list I like minus the monitor
and edition of windows haha
any reason for the seasonic PSU instead of evga and WD instead of seagate barracuda?
If I have to change the case to make sure the CPU stays cool by having a bigger cooler then so be it I'll have to look at a different case

seasonic PSU instead of evga
seasonic is also a top-tier brand. and you only need 550w, so saves you £20
WD instead of seagate barracuda?
misclick. edited. :P

it isn't the case. its the ram. and you ain't gonna find another set of 32gb ram for cheaper. so sacrifice the cooler instead :)
