2k gaming rig

would a beefier cooler fit with a nzxt Phantom Enthusiast? or is it a motherboard placement issue?
you can call it board placement issue. all ram are a standard distance away from the cpu. big coolers overhang the ram slots, hence only low profile ram can be used with big coolers.

with the monitor I want the high res 1920 just isnt enough haha, and yeah colour/contrast/dark etc all important for the video work and the bigger the screen area is better for the music. 27/28" is perfectly big enough so as long as its that size the picture quality and resI olution are what matters, as well as the low 1ms refresh rate etc. I thought the 28 TN is IPS or at least that it was it is claiming in its description.

naaaw, you misread lol

tbh, for 27-28inch, 4k looks a wee bit too small, even if you sit 3 feet away from the screen, you're likely gonna use scaling. 4k really should be for screens >32 inches. 1440p is a better resolution for 27-28inch screen.
(speaking from experience - have a 28inch 4k screen and a 32inch 1440p screen. guess which is my preferred screen to use?:D)

TN image quality will never be as good as IPS, similarly, IPS screen response will never be as good as TN. tradeoffs :p
just depends which is more important lol

I'm not saying your wrong and quite probably I will go for the better image on the smaller 27" however looking at the figures they have put out then they are same apart from the 1ms response time compared to 4ms and its running an 8bit panel compared to a 10bit panel. given that probably would be a better quality image from the smaller screen its will that 4ms be noticeable enough. quality of the picture with that high res are definitely important

I was more thinking of when creating movies the speech matches the mouths haha the gaming I wasn't thinking too much about with the monitor as I could use a smaller 24" second screen better for gaming but I doubt it would be that much of a difference for my gaming haha.
so basically the only difference comparing the numbers is the response time. I'll probably end up going for the slightly smaller 27" as I imagine the image quality is higher on a smaller screen of the same ratios of colour and contrast while keeping the high res.
I dont think its ocuk to be at fault it will be the advertising material that is sent from acer which is why it probably has a * after IPS as its probably the material for the whole predator range which includes IPS but not this one specific model. misleading advertising by acer tbh

it probably would, but I doubt I'd find using either a 27 or 28 at 60hz for my use would warrant getting a second screen but its an option and yes a 24" 144hz screen or 2 would be a nice touch

pointless. the teamgroup night hawk with led is £150 cheaper for the same amount of ram

Sorry to jump in on another persons thread but I follow many posts for ideas on my own upcoming build (albeit an OCUK prebuild). The build I was looking at:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...-pc-intel-core-i7-8700k-4.9ghz-fs-1bw-og.html

comes with Team Group Nighthawk RGB 2x8GB 3200MHZ RAM at £199.99 for the white version (I prefer black to match inside of case but for £30 less I would take the white).

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...al-channel-kit-rgb-white-tf2d4-my-08n-tg.html

But that 2x16GB Nighthawk looks like a steal at £239.99 albeit not RGB to match the rest of my build (Asus ROG Strix Mobo and 1080ti) but at least they are black rather than white.

I’m guessing the performance difference between 3000 and 3200 MHZ is going to being minimal / unnoticeable unless benchmarking? So I would be better off spending the extra £39.99 on the 2x16GB LED Version in a colour I like. Not sure I need 32gb as will only really be gaming but for the sake of £40 to double my RAM it would seem a no brainer.

I did a load of benching but at 400/600hz hz jumps and its mainly average and min frame rates that get the bump, but with 3000 vs 3200- id go large just because ram prices are through the roof! if least you'll be set for the life of the Rig- heck- look into some Ram Disk style programs on steam- was one where it would let you mount parts of a game directly to ram- so level maps would almost be instantaneous load! - cant for the life of me remember whats its called though

correct, intel builds are less sensitive to ram speed/timings. also if you're spending that much, you should really make a thread, so one of us can have a look at the specs before you press buy

i'd say they like timings more then ryzen but yeah- over those two speeds not worth it.
actually, just set XMP and then bump speed from 3000hz to 3200 in bios and change 36 timing to 38- rest of the timings and CL is 16 so should work fine ......

would take 2 mins to change and 30 mins to test- doesnt work still have 32gb , if it does then you'll get a smug look hahaha
