3-4 Beers a Night.. Damaging?

A mate of mine buried his dad aged in his early 50's due to liver failure. He'd been a 3-4 cans a night man for about 20 years, and began to feel a bit under the weather, thus went to see a doctor. After being referred for CT scans etc. he was told he was in the advanced stages of cirrohsis, he died within a week or so of the diagnosis. :(

i enjoy having a few cans a night and have done for many many years, whether its bad for me i really dont care as i exercise and dont smoke ..

i'd be worried or concerned if i was out every fri/sat night binge drinking like i know a lot of youths do which really does take its toll on the body.

i cant honestly remember the last time i was drunk or smashed as it not something i find the need to do, everyones different and everyone eventually finds their limit..

the danger is when your drinking for the wrong reasons

I'm temped to try a month off, it won't be easy though, work is stressing me out atm, I've been promised a month off but they keep pushing it back :(.

I too have been thinking about my drinking habits and am slightly concerned

Guys we should forge an alliance :)

I know it might seem like a stupid idea, but I come on this forum every night. So I might make a Tee Total Thread. Where we can put a post in each night as a routine.

Kinda like a mini competition. Obviously people would have to be honest for it to work.

Tell me if its crap idea. Could maybe make a big thread that includes people wanting to quit other vices like smoking or gambling too. If we all have it in our minds we would be more likely to have a shot at stopping :)

Hedge, I'm in

after this weekend though, it's a triple 25th birthday (3 friend's birthdays)

Okay, No one could ever survive a birthday night out of that calibre, so you Ill let you off this time! ;)

My thread making skills are pretty crap.

Hopefully theres a clever boozer/smoker here who could construct an **Ocuk Quitters** thread, where we can post our Vice, and post our progress on quitting. An excel style spreadsheet with Names and tables for different choices would be great but I dont know if its possible to make something like that which everyone can input on.

Its asking a lot of someone to come up with an effective thread. So if no one can help my poor lack of geeky skills, Ill have a shot at making a decent thread this afternoon :) im still half asleep at the mo

I'd like to but I'm not sure I'd last anywhere near a week let alone a month atm. Just moved into student flats and there's loadsa parties etc and I want to make friends and if I'm out my will power not to drink is usually gone within a few minutes.

Yeah I imagine i would be doomed in that situation. Thank god im not under that kinda pressure lol :)

I iz hard cuz i canz drink LOADS !!! ....hic

wow just wow. Who gives a flying **** If you drink lots you are most likely going to end up a alchy and have all sorts of problems when you get older.
George Best is a great example of what it can do to you. I dont see why people expose themselves to that kind of harm.
I have the odd drink here and there. But drinking daily and a huge outting at the weekend is insane. Not to mention think about the amount of money you could save if you didnt drink O_O

It's all part of enjoying life mate, go for it.
I have probably 2-4 beers a night in front of the telly or down the pub, then I'll go out on the weekends.

Supposedly if you drink the same amounts, but leave gaps it's suppose to be better. ie: If you have have breaks between alcohol it lets your body recover. eg: Alcohol only at weekends is a good one to do so your body has most of a week without alcohol...

I dont think you really got the point of the thread. I wasnt bragging about it. I was asking for a bit of input because i dont actually like the fact that i drink too much. I dont really get why you chose to take an attitude like you did.

its a habit like lots of things. Im not on the extreme end of the scale necking bottles of vodka all day. but im at the point where i want to stop doing it. So thats a good thing

Yea soz over reaction on my half. I've just seen and met a lot of people that take the attitude I described.
As you said at least you are trying to stop it !! :D

Too many to name really...haha

But Leffe is amazing, I like my German beers to be fair...And thing's like (on tap anyway) Erdinger, Paulana, Heineken (On tap in Holland), I've had all sorts to be fair.

I used to love my Ales too, the Spitfires, London Prides, Specaled Hens, Riddlers etc....But I don't have them nowadays, as pubs can't seem to keep them well enough.

I'm going through a Guiness faze at the moment actually! Mainly cause the beers around here taste mank and there aren't any.

Theres loads more, I just can't think of any at the moment, so name a few if you like :p

I have a pub near me which KNOWS how to store ales properly, and they continually rotate their range of beers, they tend to have 10 or more in at a time and you're allowed to try before you buy. It's heaven

They recently had a beer festival, with lots of cask beers. Mmmmmmmmm
