3-4 Beers a Night.. Damaging?

I can't comprehend sitting at home drinking. It's disgusting how little respect people have for their bodies. Get some self control and girlfriend and stop sitting around feeling sorry for yourselves.

You have a very narrow view of things if you feel that people only drink at home because they feel sorry for themselves. I am a happily engaged guy, not depressed in any way at all, yet it is not unusual for me to have a tumbler of whisky or two of an evening, or maybe a bottle of ale. Not because I'm depressed, but because I actually really enjoy the taste of the drink.

My comment is directed at those who drink more than you.

Wow.

Just, wow.

That's a very blinkered, self righteous attitude you have there.

I take it that you never drink (despite the fact that alcohol is good for you in moderation), treat your body as a temple and are vegan?

People don't just drink because they're depressed, it's a nice way to relax after a hard day at work, a good accompaniament with a meal and, shock! horror!, people enjoy the taste.

Wow.

I think you'll feel better for knocking it on the head for a month, Hedge.

Just make sure that when you pick it up again, you dont go all out! Stick to 1 or 2 a night if you're worried about it (which you clearly are!).

This doesn't reflect on you, but my father has at least 4 per evening before he goes home. I don't know why he does it, in honesty. He's been an alcoholic as long as i can remember (he's not an angry violent type, he's the nicest man you'd ever meet, he just lacks confidence and makes up for it in beer). If we're out for a meal, he'll have 1 or 2 even if he's driving. He's just compelled to do it, as far as i can tell. He probably feels he needs to do it to "top up" his personality, or something.

I dont know. Point is, he started when he was 16 and over the years, it's become a need, rather than a luxury. Just be careful, i guess is what i'm saying. It's often difficult for us to see what's happening to ourselves over the course of time.

Disclaimer: I'm sure that you're a perfectly healthy and happy 20-something, and i'm not implying that you will become an alcoholic. I'm just saying it's good that you're aware of what you're doing and worried about possible implications!

I too have been thinking about my drinking habits and am slightly concerned, i drink between 2-4 x 440ml cans of carling or fosters a night after work as it helps me to wind down (i'm a chef), then on my days off, i'll probably drink about 4-6 cans of the same, i have done for a long time and it's bothering me now and i think to myself i need to stop, but then it gets to the evening again and had a stressful evening at work and i just automatically reach for a beer.

I need to find an alternative, i don't even get drunk, i hate being drunk so it's not for the effects that i drink. Anyone got any tips to help me stop, ideally i'd like a good drink once or maybe twice a week, no more.

well as statistics say 6 cans a week is binge drinking. 3~4 a day if you at it for a while it would get any better.

i would say rather drink 1 day a week friday or saturday . Myself i drink every friday 4 ~ 6 cans. Use to not drink at all but when i did quit smoking. but its fun :D

Erm if people are depressed they're not very likely to be in respect of there bodies much are they. As for getting a girlfriend some of us are just naturally more shy but it's good to know you're Mr perfect who has his life sorted. Now where's that beer :D. For the record I drink for pleasure I love the taste of beer and yes occassionally I also drink if I'm feeling depressed but I tend to be more in the 1-2 range weekdays unless I'm going out...

Wow.

I'm not talking about drinking in general, don't misunderstand me. I didn't say "all drinkers". My attitude is with regards to those who drink quite a lot a daily basis. Also just because I said "stop feeling sorry for yourself" doesn't mean that everyone is depressed.

I can think of many ways to relax that don't posion/slowly kill you.

FYI, I drink socially, I'm not a vegan but I do look after myself.

if you were going without alcohol why would you go to the pub? it would be like sitting a fat kid outside a sweet shop
there are other ways to socialize with out involving alcohol or the pub

but its what most consider the norm

Why would I go there? Because Friday and Saturday nights that is where we meet normally, and see every person I know in the town I live in...Which is a fair few people.

I've considered doing Snowboarding a couple of times every Friday or so at the local XScape, but even that is a good £35 for an hour inc equipment hire...Which is more than an average night out for me.

I only really have a couple of friends I do hobby's with, such as skateboarding, but one of them now goes to Uni, so we don't do it much, and the other guy who skates is in a band, so he dont do it much either.

The only other thing I can do is goto a mates house which is a good 20 miles away to go cycling, but naturally that puts the petrol expenditure up! And you can't really do that in the evenings around here to be honest.

At the moment I drink about 1 every other night now i would say, if there is any in the fridge... i wouldnt really go out my way to buy some. There was a point at which i would drink a few each night, but it really makes me put on weight so i had to cut it down a bit.
Hey boomoo it's Joel (we work together). I wouldn't make a special trip for alcohol but seeing as the nearer place is next door doesn't seem to be a big deal to go buy some alcohol. Also beer is really cheap here €15 for 24 cans of ottakringer :D.

I'm pretty weight conscious as it is...So If I was to start drinking during the week then I'm sure as hell I would start putting weight on.

I do think sometimes, its bad I drink at weekends, and nothing during the week...But I really don't need to drink during the week, is that a bad thing?

I do enjoy my drinks, otherwise I wouldn't drink them  I'd rather spend £3.20 on a nice flavoured pint, rather than £1.80 or something on a cheap fosters / carling just to get mashed.

Now here's a man who is really into his beers like me . What beers are you into I'm quite a leffe fan myself or maybe an orangeboom if I'm after something light.
